First-person Socialism [Victor Davis Hanson]
I think our president needs to invest more in the use of the third-person "government," since his speeches more and more center on the narcissistic "I" and "me." Even the car-takeover speech was "I-ed" to death. E.g.

My Auto Task Force

And so today, I am announcing that my administration will...

In this context, my administration will offer General Motors adequate working capital over the next 60 days. During this time, my team will be working closely with GM to produce a better business plan.

I am committed to doing all I can to see if a deal can be struck...

Now, I know that when people even hear the word "bankruptcy" it can be a bit unsettling, so let me explain what I mean. What I am talking about is..

What I am not talking about is a process where a company is broken up, sold off, and no longer exists. And what I am not talking about is having a company stuck in court for years...

It is my hope that the steps I am announcing...

let me say it as plainly as I can ...

I'm directing my team to take several steps.

I want to work with Congress to identify parts of the Recovery Act..

I am designating a new Director of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers...

And on and on . . .

Why can't he learn to speak like a normal person, damn it?!

"Jimmy goes for the basket! Jimmy's down! Jimmy's gonna get you, Kramer!"

Stupid egomaniac.

Would you rather he speak of himself in 3rd person like the Bass?

Obama: "The Obama does not find these bonuses acceptable."

Or maybe he wants to distance himself from other people in the government... (Pelosi)....

It is true that "our" and "we" would be much more appropriate, given that I hope he is seeking healthy counsel with his advisors.

Victor, Victor, Victor - stick to your military history and leave the shrinkology to the shrinks.

All senior (ie in the prime leadership position) politicians bang on about "I" and "my". They're egotistical by nature so it comes naturally. Show me a shy politician and I'll show you an error of nature.

But then if Obama used the Third Person Bassist approach he'd be whining that Obama was referring to the Politburo.

Why not find a real issue to talk about, I am so tired of these non-issues and nitpicking garbage. Here, someone look up some of these:

How much of our taxes he is wasting on environut policies.

How much of our freedoms he is taking away just to give another class of people handouts.

Why isn't anything he does different yet he keeps calling for "change"?

How about, why were enough republican supporters stupid enough to vote for the fucker?

I'm surprised he didn't do it already. The continued references to Obama's economic policies as "socialist" has already established a standard of economic and political inaccuracy that's difficult to surpass, so he has little to lose by doing so.

My error, I wasn't nominating the Bass, simply the Bass' propensity for self-reference in the third person. I'd make a reference to Harry Lime but not many of us would get it so I won't

The "socialist" tag is tiresome for sure.

I was referring to dear Vicky, actually, along with the rest of his ilk.

Okay well you have to know that even the Great Diuretic can get confused. He has to carry his ego around with him in a wheelbarrow and it gives him a pretty good pain in the back. He was probably getting some painkiller rub in his back when he was reading your post and understandably the Great Diuretic may have made an error. However it is entirely probable that he will never make an error again.

Stuff it, I'm not very good at it (I hope)

Thirty nine thousand irrelevant unimportant trivial posts. 'No, Saint Peter, I did not waste lots of time, I really thought calling the opposition a socialist was relevant. You disagree!'

True. I always feel good when Midcan admits to noticing my posts!

A true narcissist does not consider other human beings as human. All others exist for the narcissist as 'ego supply'.

what silliness... anyone who thinks he should be president has an ego the size of all outdoors.

ask the decider...

Can a President of the United States have a healthy ego or must they all be narcissists by definition?

Barack Obama has a healthy ego and the ability to take on the great responsibility of serving the interests of American citizens.

And just where did you divine that tidbit?

Psychology. You want me to find a source for that? Most people here don't like cut and paste quotes. But if you want me to find one for you--there are several websites that go into narcissism as a character disorder in depth. Google narcissism.

This guy has literally written the book on the topic and has a website:

She's correct. Full blown narcissists have no empathy with others, any they have contact with are for their own use.

It's the reason my ex got up on the stand and answered the judge, "Why should I have to pay for those children, (6-9 years of age), what are they doing for me?" He seriously was confounded when ordered to undergo psychiatric testing, yes, the bottom line was narcissism.
