Healthcare bill passed

And doesn't the Senate have the filibuster...don't they need 60 votes?
They can waive the rules on that and punch anything they want through with 50 votes plus Biden.

No they cannot. They can use some parliamentary manoeuvre or other and get around it but they would find themselves out of power pretty quickly. Even the Democrats won't go for that and it will set a terrible precedent.
They CAN do it and they don't care what the political ramifications are. They are far too invested in the "success" of this President and WILL fall on their swords if need be. They will use cloture if they have to and they will gamble on two things:

1.) The election is a LONG way off and the sheep are reliable as far as getting back into the pen when needed. Reliable and with short memories.

2.) The economy will recover, or more likely, be SOLD as recovered, and any plan they pass will have the revenue loaded on the front end, helping them knock a temporary dip in the deficit right around election time!

Now, I am not saying I think they are right on their gamble, and I am pretty sure they would like to avoid it if possible, but to get anything through the Senate without the Blue Dogs? These are the dice they will have to roll.

And they will. We WILL have Universal health Care WITH a public option and with every other item on the far-left wish list. No matter what it takes for them to do it.

Or with all the money they are wasting on advertisements, wasted government time, donations to groups supporting it and lobbying in government.. they could have created a charity to support those who have healthcare issues

Wasted money on advertising and lobbying in government, you must be talking about the private insurance companies. I wonder how many they could insure with all that extra money?

Hmm.. you have not seen the ads supporting the Obamaplan and 'universal healthcare'??

I'm just saying, it works both ways.

So, per this bill, we gonna spend $829 billion and pay higher taxes to insure only 10 million people, starting year 2015. After year 2019, there still will be 20 million uninsured. Why bother?
ALL of the bills so far have the revenue coming in first, then the big costs near the end of a ten year span. It's not too tough to figure out why that is.

But you're right, this is such a national crisis, an emergency, that we have to have it NOW but wait -- none of it really kicks in for a few years.

It's almost like a Billy Mays sales pitch.

But Mays was a highly successful pitch man!

Gee I thought a bill had to pass Congress before it was the law of the land. Now all you have to do is pass a committee? Do you guys call it a win at half time or wait until the final gun?

What it really will come down to is, are the majority of us who already have health care, willing to place it in jeopardy for about 10% or less of the population? That pressure on Congress will cave enough Democrats to kill or vastly water down this program.

Did you get that liberals? Your own people will stop you. Obama will come out in favor of no public option. He has shown winning is most important, not what you actually end up with. It will go under the bus right along side Mr. Jennings. He has to, the public option is a no go with people running for reelection in close districts.

I will send additional emails to my reps. Be warned, so far all I have gotten in return are form letters which let you know they didn't read the letter you sent. Courtesy Mr. Levin and Mrs. Stebenow.

LOL. As one of those with a "Cadillac" plan, I would like to see all Americans covered. Britain, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and even little Costa Rica can do it, why cannot we do it? And why, when they have zero families going bankrupt due to medical bills, do we have hundreds of thousands of families every year going bankrupt due to medical bills.

Do you really think that is the best this nation can do? Are you so wrapped up in "me'ism" that you cannot see that we are paying twice as much per citizen as Japan, and recieving and inferior result?

Did you miss the memo? NOT everyone will be covered EVER. Last number I saw on that was 6% not covered. Japan? You mean that country with a better diet and more physically active people? That could never be a reason could it?

Health care reform is going to pass.

You far right cons have forgotten something: you lost.

and if this thing fucks everything up more than what it is Jake....will we hear you admit that?....or are you just going to ..... disappear?.....

Of course I am going to be here, and if it screws up, I will own up. Unlike our former Bushies here who look up, down, or around without looking us in the eyes and say, "We wuz taken for a ride by the bad guys." These folks are sorry, sorry lozers.

So, HarryDresden, since this is going to pass, get on the email and the phone and the fax to your reps in D.C., and say, "hey", and tell them what you think. If you lose, you lose, but we both know your turn will come again.
im all for the "reform" Jake.....i just dont like the people who are doing the reforming....these are some of the worst politicians this country has ever seen....the healthcare system may go from needing some tweeks and twist....to needing major surgery after these people get done making it "better".....

When the bill is finally put together, with a public option, there will be more Republicans, both in the Senate and in the House, that vote for it. Simply because they wish to keep their seats.

But you rightwingnut fruitcakes just go ahead and drive them out of your party, and into the Democratic column. Then, with an overwhelming majority, we can remake this nation into a progressive dynamo that can compete with China and Europe.

one thing i can say about you Rocks.....you are consistent.....i never see you say anything good about the US....the US is always second rate to you....

Are you speaking of the 1.4 million a day spent by the Health Insurance industry to lobby our representatives to do that which is not in the interest of most Americans?

Our seniors had nothing until MediCare. Now it is time to create a system for all Americans that does not bankrupt millions of Americans for the wealth of a very few.

Old "Chrissy" Rocks.....you guys are 2 Automatons repeating the same shit ....over and over...

What same stuff. That America can improve life for our seniors and for those who are truly poor, Harry Dresden? That is American.

And the Baucus plan will not accomplish any of that.
Of course we're in the Era of Intentions, where actual outcome or achievement doesn't matter anymore. It's only the thought that counts.

The Baucus plan will not reduce costs, and that is unfortunate. If there wasn't such an anti-change obstuctionist lobby on the right, just maybe a good plan could have been formed. The problem is that neither the right or left in Washington, or in the US for that matter, want to admit that anything they believe could be wrong. So in the end we get a bill that won't accomplish half of what it is intended to.

The idea that nothing is wrong with our current system is laughable at best. Everyone can see that costs will continue to spiral out of control if we don't do something. Now that the right continues to fight this to the end, we will end up with something that isn't much better than what we have, but at least it will be a start. Down the road, hopefully this plan will be tweaked and made much better. If costs still continue out of control, then eventually the entire system will collapse and we'll just have to start over from scratch.

This has been coming for a long time now, and Republicans had every opportunity to address the healthcare issue but never did. The worst thing about all of this is that there are a number of ways to positively change the system that would allow for near universal coverage while reducing costs, and without jeapardizing the quality of care for anyone.
What the hell are you smoking, boy??
The GOP has put forward many good proposals that would do all those things. The Dems have blocked even discussion of them, and the media have played along.
If the Dems wanted a good health care plan, they could have produced one. They could have passed it without a single Republican vote.
But they didnt. They made war on the GOP and on their own party. They went for the Big Government option, against the wishes of many of their own party members. Whatever they want to believe, the August town hall meetings should have been a wake up call that they were on the wrong track. Instead the Dem leadership did everything they could to deny it, to delegitimize it, and to demonize it.
No, blame for this turkey is squarely with the Democratic Party.

yea this Govt plan will help our Seniors out better than now?.....yea right.....and when you have been here a while you will see that Chris and Rocks repeat themselves.....a hell of a lot....and will dance around questions thrown at them....they kinda remind me of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers....dance threw 1,000 posts without answering a question that someone will ask 10 times through the 1,000....

Communism, and socialism huh, Old Rocks? I knew your were in with that group of people. Your environut mentality is what first gave it away for you...but now a direct admission of what your about.

Who thinks Olympia Snowe needs to go take a long vacation. In Somalia?

The people of Maine LOVE her and Ms. Collins, and they are for this bill. Both of these women are NEW ENGLAND REPUBLICANS (that means old style REAL ones,) and for them MAINE PEOPLE come first, before neoCON bullshit!

People get the reps they deserve. Maine obviously deserves at least one clueless accolade seeking bimbo.

Health care reform is going to pass.

You far right cons have forgotten something: you lost.

When this passes, we will ALL lose.
Medical efficiency will be pushed = assembly line medical care; it will start in schools to indoctrinate the children on what to expect as adults: no privacy, open wards, no private consultations with doctors, medical samples on file to be accessed by police departments, FBI, and CIA, forced sterilizations or abortions for selected "groups", medical care limited to urban areas (you have to go thru war zone to get to "provider", where you will stand in lines similar to airport security or DMV, also gov run programs).

All you have that any of the above will not happen is the "word" of a politician. If that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, you might want to review campaign promises compared to what is delivered after the election....vastly different.
The politicians are saying "trust me", and the same people that are complaining the gov "didn't" protect them from all these other things that are happening now (including being unemployed) are going to be the same ones that discover they are on the gov plantation where the "boss" brings the doctor to check you when the "boss" thinks you need checked, medical excuses are written by the "boss" and if you are unemployed, you may find yourself in the same boat as people today with no insurance: if you can't make money (taxes) for the "boss", you will not be taken care of, or your family.

Old Rocks doesn't like the US to be a super power. With his environut buddies, they do want the US to fail economically....He is the first one on this board that I call unAmerican, to me he is a disgrace to the American flag.
