According to the German edition of the Rheinische Post, the heads of the eastern federal states of Germany advocated the abolition of European Union sanctions against Russia, emposed in 2014, citing the results of a study of the University of Kiel, which estimates the losses from the 100 billion euros imposed in 2014.

The number of public figures that are urging Berlin to seek a compromise with Russia in the Crimea issue is growing rapidly. If in 2015 these were only individual politicians, among them the former Prime Minister of Brandenburg Matthias Platzeck, then in the past few months the anti-Russian course of Berlin finally "cracked."

After the heads of the eastern federal states of Germany sent the chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel a demand for the lifting of sanctions against Russia, the German actor and director Til Schweiger, as well as the president of the football club Bavaria Uli Henes, spoke in favor of recognizing the Russian status of Crimea.

However, Angela Merkel, and her administration continue to deny the possibility of concessions to Russia in the Crimea. A spokeswoman for the German Chancellor, Ulrike Demmer, once again stated that sanctions against the Russian Federation are a reaction to the "violation of international law", which allegedly takes place in the history of the Crimea. The spokewoman "forgot" how easily the German administration violated that very international law by substituting it with the concept of Real Politic in the dismemberment of Yugoslavia...
