I've heard all of the reasons that their is NOT A GOD. And yes, to my shame, I believed them as well. I believed them until something in my life showed me that I was NOT the ultimate, the pinnacle of power in the universe. To believe so is ludicrous and shows a very high lack of intelligence.

My wife and I were thirty years old. I was just coming out of the military (it was 1981) and was a cop. We had no kids and she wanted some really badly. The military had told her over and over to get a hysterectomy because there was no way she would ever get pregnant. When we came home, we went to a fertility specialist and there were new drugs on the market. She got pregnant and we had our first. A girl named Jennifer who was developmentally delayed (I wouldn't change it for the world). Two months after Jennifer she got pregnant again. When he was born on December 17th the cord was prolapsed. He began breathing in the womb and of course literally drowned. They got his heart beating and he lived for 41 days. I stood there after I took him off the ventilator until he died. I wouldn't let anyone else into the room. I watched while four of my friends carried a casket that was a little over two feet long to the grave in a driving snow storm.

I cursed God and asked Him why? There were people churning out kids like a factory and taking drugs and not wanting them. I wanted this one, why did HE do this to me and to the woman I loved? We would have taken care of this one and loved him without end? It made no sense. Surely a loving, kind God would not let this happen? Or perhaps there was no God. The Bible was so full of contradictions, was it just a panacea? My wife strengthened her belief and told me, "You wait. God has a plan for us."

Two years later I started checking on an abandoned car along the highway. It was 105 degrees outside. The car was a station wagon, locked up tight, and was full of crap. To make a long story short, in the back was a baby who had been abandoned. His belly was swollen so big because it was infected. His father had cut the umbilical cord with a pocket knife. He almost didn't make it. But when he left the hospital, he went to my house.

A year after that, a grandmother called me and told me that her grand daughter had a 9 month old that she nor any of the relatives hadn't seen for two months. The grand daughter was shacking up with a devil worshipper. To make another long story short we went to the alley apartment and I pushed my way in. The baby was laying in a crib on the screened-in front porch. They had punctured the baby's ear drums with pencils and had burned all the skin off the bottom of her feet with a cigarette lighter. They pulled all the hair out of her head and she weighed less at 9 months than when she was born. It was 36 degrees outside and the baby was so hypothermic that she didn't even cry.

When I told my wife, like a shot she went to the hospital. When I got there, she was sitting in a rocking chair holding that baby because we were foster parents and my wife got the judge to appoint her as "guardian". The doctor told me that she shouldn't get too attached to the baby because it wouldn't make it through the night. My wife just smiled and said that she would not only make it, but that she was a "gift from God." The doctor said that he had NEVER seen a human being so close to death as this little baby. Specialists from Tulsa and Dallas came and said that the baby would not last a week. My wife did not leave the hospital for 3 straight weeks.

Today, that little newborn boy is my son and that little girl is my daughter. I buried my wife two years ago next to the son I lost. But you cannot tell me that there is not a God who is charge of this universe. Your issue is with people. The church is comprised of people and people can do terrible things in the name of religion and other things. Nothing people do surprises me. But God does have a plan and He is in control. And I thank Him everyday for my life, my wife, and my children... all of them.

Today, that little newborn boy is my son and that little girl is my daughter. I buried my wife two years ago next to the son I lost. But you cannot tell me that there is not a God who is charge of this universe. Your issue is with people. The church is comprised of people and people can do terrible things in the name of religion and other things. Nothing people do surprises me. But God does have a plan and He is in control. And I thank Him everyday for my life, my wife, and my children... all of them.

I know a couple of things

1) The church required infant baptism for a thousand years. After people began to doubt that a loving god would burn an infant in eternal hell and protested...the church stopped requiring it. The scripture is still there

2) The church hunted down, tortured and killed young women who had been accused of witchcraft for thousands of years. When ordinary people reali ed that there is no such thing as witchcraft the church stopped mentioning it. The scripture is still there.

5) After preaching hundreds of billions of hell fire and brimstone sermons across thousands of years when the public began to reject the eternal flames concept guess what....the church began to say it was all a misunderstanding and translation problem so we now have a flame free hell. The scripture is still there.

6) The church has condemned homosexuality and been responsible for the torture and killing of enormous numbers of human's who were born a certain way and had to either hide their lifestyle or falsely reject it. This has continued since the gospel was first preached but now modern lifestyles have even accomodated church membership for many homosexuals. The scripture is still there.

Religion is a man's game written by their own interests and and anyone who fails to see the truth in the conceived image of primitive mankind and the similarities to their conceived god which reflects their own weakness has either been brainwashed with the bullschit, is very ill informed or naive.
