fad:

an interest followed with exaggerated zeal; "he always follows the latest fads"; "it was all the rage that season"

followers of an unorthodox, extremist, or false religion or sect who often live outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader

a religion or sect that is generally considered to be unorthodox, extremist, or false; "it was a satanic cult"

Rush, Beck, Malkin, Savage, Death camps, euthanasia, birthers, :eusa_liar:

It is probably indicative that they now attack Obama supporters as a cult, because they see in their own party the dissolution of reason and morality.

They sure seem to drink enough kool aid.:cuckoo:

I think the lack of a single, strong personality that speaks to his disciples with the "authority of god" tends to undermine the cult analogy.

Considering some of the stuff I am reading in some heavily Republican/Conservative sites, it certainly makes me wonder.

Its not a cult, but it does show a lack of leadership within the party. Nobody can speak with authority. The party is judged by the constituency it attracts. Right now that constituency includes birthers, dittoheads, racists, fundamentalists and gun nuts.
The party is unwilling to offend any member of these constituency and to much of the country....this is the republican party

You don't see any cult resemblence in the behavior of the current Repubs who all vote exactly like their leadership tells them? You really believe this is a sign of strength? Look up "groupthink" some time. It ain't a good thing for survival.

Working with Dems may be like herding cats, but working with the current Repubs is like leading lemmings.

That's the fear speaking.

Republicans furiously back pedal when Rush is unhappy. He sings, they dance. The louder he sings, the faster they dance.

The size of the elected is beginning to look like a cult, only 40 senators, and it's even worse in the house.

Wow, once again Dude just leveled me with his power of reason.

You corporate fascist bad person.
Note even a good attempt to deflect form the substance of the post in question.

Unfortunately for you, puddinhead, I don't fit so neatly into your two-dimensional little Hegelian RNC vs. DNC box.

Could you please post something that makes sense to someone besides you some time.....anytime??

I don't view the partisan loyalist as cultist. I see them as political sadomasochists who enjoy being whipped and humiliated like some kind of political sex toy by the political whores in Washington. Sad thing is the political sex toys don't even realized they are being abused. And to make matters worse, we all have to pay the price for the Jerry Springer kids.

They don't have a leader, so no. However, during the first Bush Presidency, it vaguely resembled a cult. Now they're just a bunch of lost sheep in the wilderness who can't figure out whether to embrace their conservative roots or become the Democrat-lite party. It's really sad for them and the country.

No, but the RNC leadership has studied the tactics of cults and employs them to advance their goals.

Yes, I know, if someone says something against your "side" you must attack the other "side." Nah, no brainwashing there. ;)

Democrats have tried it repeatedly, but they suck at it. The implementation has been more aggressive and successful on the right.
