Bullmastiff or similar breed? If so what are they?

I am on the brink of a life changing decision and need a nudge in one direction or the other.

Friend of mine used to have one. She said they have an excellent temperament, very balanced dogs, not overly excitable but they are, by nature, a guard dog. She had kids and said her dog was good with them. We've never owned any so I can't comment personally but they seem pretty cool.

Roomy!!!!!!

Can't help you on this one, but glad to see your around.

Just remember the way to any dogs heart is letting them lick your balls.

What do you need a dog that has the capacity to kill people for?

ARe you a drug dealer or something?

If not, then why those breeds?

they are huge..friggin huge...get ready to give up the sofa....and wet mouthed...by that...they shake their heads and drool goes everywhere.....

now one thing to keep in mind when getting a large breed...their life spans are much shorter...i think mastiffs range between 6 to 8 years

now who is it that has mastiffs....oo hell....has a cute av...dude i think....o o see the thread...momonkey (now there is a self rightous dickhead) started on pit bulls....he mentions owning them in that thread...

me, you being a moody fuck...i woud say a doberman.....they do well in small homes...they do need exercise....and they do have health problems...fucking get a mutt lol

Unbelievable. Major damn assumption. By the way any big breed dog can kill a person. SO are you advocating we only own the very small breeds?

You idiots and your prejudices for certain dogs. Once again it is how a dog is raised and treated that determine its actions and demeanor. I have a pit bull that is the sweetest dog in the world. Of course I am not going to charge up to him with a stranger in tow.

Totally believable.

As are most opinions based on the statistical evidence.

By the way any big breed dog can kill a person.

But some of them are bred with that specifically in mind, and those breeds tend to have the agressive natures to do so, too.

That's exactly WHY they were vred into existence to begin with.

Or are you one of those who don't believe that that is true?

If so the STATs suggest that your faith based opinions are misguided.
SO are you advocating we only own the very small breeds?

No, merely asking why somebody who doesn't need a dog as a guard, would want a guard type dog.

You idiots and your prejudices for certain dogs.

Oh? Is that what recognizing reality is all about for you?

Being an idiot?

Then by all means do live your life as idiotically you see fit.

No skin off my nose, Lad.

Once again it is how a dog is raised and treated that determine its actions and demeanor.

Yeah, that's why we see the police using so many Irish setters as K-9 units, right?

Because the general disposition of all dogs is EXACTLY the same, right?

I have a pit bull that is the sweetest dog in the world.

Yes, every pitt bull owner tells us the same damned thing.

And I've known pitt bulls with sweet dispositions, too.

That proves very little about the breed generally, though.

The stats tell us that by comparison to other breeds, pitt bulls are a highly dangerous breed to keep as housepets.

Of course I am not going to charge up to him with a stranger in tow.

No, you're right.

Your faith based opinions based on anecdotal evidence won't change my mind about certain breeds of dogs.

And you attempt to cow me though ad hominen insults won't change my mind about the dependability of the stats to tell us about dog breed, either.

Your faith-based contempt for science and statistics means absolutely nothing to me.

That's YOUR cross to bear, sport, not mine.

Any dog can be a good dog or a bad dog, it all depends on the owner.

That being said, I would never want a dog that I couldn't physically subdue if I had to.

I don't think they're that aggressive. They're usually just big slobbering teddy bears.

Bullmastiff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Temperament
A Bullmastiff should be confident, yet docile. A Bullmastiff is courageous, extremely loyal to its family, calm, and loving. Bullmastiffs become intensely attached to their families.[citation needed]

Bullmastiffs can also get along with other dogs, but it is common for males not to get along with other males. The Bullmastiff can get along extremely well with children provided the dog has been properly trained and socialized. Parental supervision must be maintained when they are with children; as with most large dogs, they may knock smaller children down accidentally.

These dogs are NOT tools, they are a family pet who needs lots of love and attention like any other dog.

They are not like buying a gun for protection, they are a living being who needs to become a family member.

I have grandkids and they are a the major priority in our lives I have read that these dogs love children, they also love the family they are brought up with and will readily accept any friends that are introduced to them, all to do with socialisation I have read.I have also read they will defend with their lives their property and family unto death?I know they slobber, old towels should take care of that. They snore, the wife snores like a pig so that isn't a problem. They are strong, I like to think I am at least as strong as any normal man alive so if I can't manage one they should all be destroyed if that is an issue:eek:

I want a friend, it is my birthday next weekend and I want what I want for a change.I lost my last dog 8/9 years ago and vowed never again, I think I am ready for the challenge, she was 16 BTW and the best dog that ever lived, the most trained untrained dog in creation.Don't give me the scary big dog kills people spiel, it doesn't wash.I realise the implications and the onus lies with me.
I want facts not hearsay or anectodal evidence.I think I could find far more life saving stories as man killing stories.

American Bulldogs were my other dog of choice there is a local breeder, I suppose these are killers as well?

I meet a bullmastiff a few weeks ago. Diesel was his name. A big teddy bear because he knew I was no threat to his master. Absolutely lovable.

Go to a pound and look for a large mutt. I did. It forever changed my life.

Adopt a large pup who is in danger of not getting adopted.

Looking for specific breeds can be a disappointment as you are looking for the qualities it's breed shares, not necessarily what an individual pup will have.

good luck and happy fuckin' birthday, you limie bastard.

Bull Mastiffs have too many health issues. Bloat, enlarged heart, hips etc. Plus they don't live very long.
Get an American Bulldog. NOT a pit or a Staffy.
The real deal.
Joshua Kennels, Owl hollow kennels and Laura kennels are good breeders.
