Has any President ever gone after Fake News like Trump?

Private citizens running podcasts are the news of the future. Eventually, YouTube videos and home schooling will completely replace public pre-College education in America.

Donald Trump and nine other presidents who had complicated relationships with the media @ 10 presidents and their complicated relationships with the media

This goes back to Teddy Roosevelt.

Presidential Feuds With the Media Are Nothing New @ https://www.history.com/news/presidents-relationship-with-press

During his (Thomas Jefferson!) presidency he became critical of what he saw as the partisan nature of the press and began airing his grievances in personal letters stating, “Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle.” For some context, newspapers of the early 19th century in the U.S. frequently printed pieces with overt bias and plagued politicians with personal attacks.

The difference is that, of all the presidents we've had, President Trump is the most accessible to the media. His Tweets and his Helicopter Press Briefings are constantly in front of us. And, after years of cowing political hacks, the media doesn't know how to handle this.

"Human scum" Tramp is nothing more than a Nixon wannabe!
“The press is the enemy."
-Richard M Nixon
"You must keep up the attack on the media. You’ve got to keep destroying their credibility.”
-Richard M Nixon

The closest I can think of is former Vice President Spiro Agnew categorizing the press as "an efete of impudent snobs that identify as intellectuals" and "the Nattering Nabobs of Negativism". The country loved it when it happened and thousands of people called in to voice their approval. I like the way Trump is calling the press Fake News in live broadcasts, refusing to take questions from them, banning them from his press conferences. It's refreshing to see a President going after the press so brutally. Hopefully Trump brings about a change in the way the President interacts with the press.

Here Trump calls a reporter a rude, disgusting person and calls CNN the enemy of the people. LOL

I stand and cheer everytime The Trumpster tears in to the Fake News Propagandists.

Nation Looking For Right Phrase To Describe Media That Behaves Like Some Kind Of Adversary Of The Populace.

article-5192-1.jpg

U.S.—As the media continues to gaslight the American people, cover for pedophiles, and retract information when it damages their political allies, the nation is increasingly wishing there were some sort of phrase to describe the kind of behavior befitting of an adversary of the populace.

Nixon was very close to Trump in his rhetoric

No President has ever behaved like a vulgar, disrespectful, arrogant, spoiled, ignorant, undignified, petulant child before.

Not even close. Not within a million miles. Nothing like this. Period. No comparison.

So I guess the answer to the question in the OP would be "no".
.
Oh Look. A FAKE MODERATE.

No I've never seen a president be so rude, vulgar and disrespectful to the press and to the people of our nation.

All presidents have problems with the press but they don't lower themselves as low as trump has. He can have some class but apparently that's just not possible for him.

I've never seen a president bold face lie so much to the press and to the people of our nation.

It's about time someone had the balls to call out the PRAVDA OF THE LAME STREAM MEDIA......

I LOVE...watching Snowflakes melt when their mouthpieces get called out on Lies.

And here we go again.

I've never claimed to be a moderate. Not once.

The second line of my sig: 2. >>> For the liars who pretend I claim to be a centrist/moderate/impartial/unbiased/fence-sitter: Come on Jake, man up, just this once.

Ol' Mac strikes a nerve again.

I think the more accurate way to express your sentiment is to say no other president came as close to Trump's self-serving attacks on the free press than Nixon.

One could also say no other president has told as many lies as Trump. Nobody comes close. More than 50% of what he says or tweets is a lie.

Agree, Trump has gotten away with more outright lies and bad behaviors than any other president

Essentially, Trump lies faster than the press can fact check

So, the man who is setting records for the most lies while in office is calling out the fake news media...and you do not see the sweet irony there?

So was George Wallace.

Donald Trump's "Fake News" is simply news he doesn't like. He uses the phrase to deflect from, and to “discredit,” negative media coverage of his presidency. He attacks the media not because their stories are ‘fake,’ but because he doesn't want people to believe anything the media says about him.

It's just that simple.

A more accurate question would have been what president has ever been subjected to such an onslaught of fabricated opinion purported to be factual news?

I love when Trump tells his faithful minions that they can’t trust what the press tells them, they can only trust what he tells them
