Harvard Gun Control Study
"Nations with stringent anti-gun laws generally have substantially higher murder rates than those that do not. The study found that the nine European nations with the lowest rates of gun ownership (5,000 or fewer guns per 100,000 population) have a combined murder rate three times higher than that of the nine nations with the highest rates of gun ownership (at least 15,000 guns per 100,000 population)"

U.S. violent crime down for fifth straight year - CNN.com

Gun sales are booming yet crime is decreasing. How could that be? If it's really the guns that cause problems then crime should be increasing!

OldRocks has no answer because he has to wait for a fake study to be published from England.

I notice that the states with the highest gun ownership rates also have the highest firearm murder rates. The rate in Missisisppi is nearly three times the rate in New York. How could that be?

List of countries by intentional homicide rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One can see by the tables that the US has roughly four times the homocide rate of most of the European nations.

As well as a higher population.....Or did you think that didnt mater in your race to take freedoms?

Does the concept of "RATE" mean anything to you?

Does the concept of population density in relation to rising crime mean nothing to you?

Try again, population density has a DIRECT relationship to increasing crime rates. IOW, the more people you stick together in a small space, the greater number of criminals per capita you are going to have.

There is also social issues, cultural issues and a HOST of other things that relate to crime and homicide rates. We can pretend all day that gun ownership is the only thing that matters but we know that is utterly false. The only real data that matters is the data that isolates (as much as possible) gun laws with crime rates. Essentially, that means we need to compare crime rates before and after strict gun laws have been enacted in that locality. I'll let you a guess as to what you thing the outcome has been in such areas...

And the city of Chicago, which has strict gun laws, has had more murders this year then dead civilians in Afghanistan!

First off, you said population in your initial statement, not rate. Second, I've never said that cultural issues or population density wasn't an issue. However, Europe has cities of sizes equal to that of American cities, but with much lower violent crime rates. Third, I stated that I was talking about murder RATES, and your response was that we just have a larger population, which is stone stupid.

You are aware that population density in European is probably higher than that of the US.

So fucking what. Are you going to get a conceal license, and go stop a gun fight between rival drug gangs?

You totally missed the point.

Shhh.... don't focus on the facts that destroy their entire argument.

So if guns were easier to obtain in Chicago, the gangbangers and drug dealers wouldn't kill each other as often?

I'm shocked that coming from Harvard?

Connecticut has proven gun control does not work.

Homicide - Firearms Research - Harvard Injury Control Research Center - Harvard School of Public Health

3. Across states, more guns = more homicide

Using a validated proxy for firearm ownership, we analyzed the relationship between firearm availability and homicide across 50 states over a ten year period (1988-1997).

After controlling for poverty and urbanization, for every age group, people in states with many guns have elevated rates of homicide, particularly firearm homicide.

Miller, Matthew; Azrael, Deborah; Hemenway, David. Household firearm ownership levels and homicide rates across U.S. regions and states, 1988-1997. American Journal of Public Health. 2002: 92:1988-1993.

4. Across states, more guns = more homicide (2)

Using survey data on rates of household gun ownership, we examined the association between gun availability and homicide across states, 2001-2003. We found that states with higher levels of household gun ownership had higher rates of firearm homicide and overall homicide. This relationship held for both genders and all age groups, after accounting for rates of aggravated assault, robbery, unemployment, urbanization, alcohol consumption, and resource deprivation (e.g., poverty). There was no association between gun prevalence and non-firearm homicide.

Miller, Matthew; Azrael, Deborah; Hemenway, David. State-level homicide victimization rates in the U.S. in relation to survey measures of household firearm ownership, 2001-2003. Social Science and Medicine. 2007; 64:656-64.
