Sad Anti-War World Peace Song
(followed by Angry Anti-War Song)

MAKE THIS WAR GO AWAY
(after NIN Something I can never have)

I know world peace begins with me
I know world peace is meant to be

Like a child, I cried at the news
The President had made the choice
Of sending in our troops
My hopes and dreams of youth
We'd come so far
Were swept away in disbelief
I'd ever see a world at war

Please make this war go away
Hear every word that I pray
What can I do or say, or
Change deep down inside myself
To make this war go away

Help me forgive what I hate
World peace is something
We can have someday
if we start today. . .

If only I could turn back the clock
To a time of peace before
The sanctions in Iraq
Could we have spared
Five thousand children - dead
Every month, while other nations
Simply turned their heads

O God help me
Please make this war go away
Heal every heart full of hate
Show me what to do or say, or
Change deep down about myself
To make this war go away

Forgive the church and the state
World peace is coming
It is God's kingdom
We are meant to have

I know world peace is meant to be
I know world peace begins with me

I'M A CIVILIAN
http://www.houstonprogressive.net/mp3/Civilian demo.mp3
(I'M A SURVIVOR)
http www.houstonprogressive.org

Whether I'm a widow, or a child of four
You know it breaks my heart
To hear you talk of war
I could be Iraqi, or a Palestinian
Native Pakistani, or a proud American

Whether I am Vietnamese, or in Afghanistan
Living as a refugee beneath the Taliban
We bleed the same,
I fear for my children
Before you start a war,
Just think who you're killing

womenchildren.jpg

I'm a civilian, that's who you're killing
Women and children, dead by the millions
Why bomb our schools, and blow up our buildings
The world better wake up, we ain't gonna take it

I'm a civilian, I'm not a target
Can't feed my children, sold on the market
I'm tired of running, starving and dying
While global funding, goes into fighting

slavetraffic.gif

While city governments
Spend several thousand
To kick low-income residents
From public housing

Swimming in a paper chase,
Rewriting their rules
We don't have printed books
To keep our children in schools.

marchrawa.jpg

Hey! All you feminists still out there bitchin'
Look at those of us - don't even have a kitchen

All you politicians take your power for granted
Funding 'civil wars' when you could save the planet

Think of civilians,
That's who you're killing
Women and children,
Oppressed by the millions.

rawabanner.jpg
You shut down our schools,
And fill up our prisons
You better wake up,
We ain't gonna take it

I'm a civilian, I'm not a target
Can't my kids from guns on the market
I'm tired of starving, struggling and dying
While public funding, goes into fighting

CIVIC_POST.gif
[SPOKEN:]
I pray for global peace, no violence in the streets
No gangs compete, to beat the big Commander-in-Chief
(Ain't paying for that)
Ain't gonna fund your greedy war machine
(Ain't paying for that)
Gotta keep my family fed, and my laundry clean
(I'm tired of that)
Why should I pay for all your bureaucracy
(Ain't paying for that)
While I donate time to the charities
(I'm tired of that)
To fix the problems of government
Tired of paying double taxes for that!

"Obamaphones Jimmy"

Jimmy, Jimmy, who can I turn to?
Please give me somethin' I can hold on to
I know you think I'm like the others before
Who saw your number on the White House wall

Jimmy, I don't want to encumber
I need to get in your mind
Jimmy, arise from your slumber

"Fate tricks Heaven" why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined

Jimmy, Jimmy, will you unfurl that for me?
Oh, please help me understand your repartee
They wouldn't listen before, but they were disturbed
They started wars, now we're running off the curve

Jimmy, I don't want to encumber
I need to get in your mind
Jimmy, arise from your slumber

"Fate tricks Heaven,"
why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined

I got it, (I got it), I got it
I got your number on the wall
I got it, (I got it), I got it
"For good advice, for good advice call"

Jimmy, don't change your number
I need to get in your mind
Jimmy, awake from your slumber

"fate tricks Heaven,"
why he opined

Jimmy, Jimmy, who can I turn to?
"fate tricks Heaven," why he opined

Just like Bush 1 and 2, can I turn to you?
"fate tricks Heaven," why he opined

"Fate tricks Heaven," why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined
Fate tricks Heaven, why he opined

LAND GRAB IN FREEDMEN'S TOWN
(after Bad Bad Leroy Brown)

http://houstonprogressive.net/mp3/landgrab.mp3

In the Fourth Ward here in Houston
On the west side of downtown
Lies 80 blocks
Of prime real estate lots
In a place called Freedmen's Town

The Freed Slaves built the neighborhood
That was condemned as "urban blight"
Their land was taken away
By eminent domain
To build apartments for the whites

It was a land - grab - in Freedmen's Town
Tearing National History down
Cuz you can't fight City Hall
When developers make the calls

Now LaGuarta - he's a developer
Who headed Houston Renaissance
Mayor Bob Lanier
Put that man in there
To get 'im anything he wants

They trashed the most historic homes
Then they claimed that they're in debt
They spent millions of dollars
On affordable houses
But we haven't seen one yet!

Cuz it's a land - grab - in Freedmen's Town
Where deals are made and handed down
To the puppets at City Hall
While developers have a ball

We've asked through City Council,
Garnet Coleman, and the Press
To pay back those grants
So we can buy the land
To build a campus and fix this mess!

Does it take an act of Congress
To keep Freedmen's Town alive?
Just call the Mayor up --
Extension twenty-two hundred
Or the fax: two, three, five, five*

And let's all - call - the Mayor now
To stop the land grab in Freedmen's Town
Why sit around City Hall
While historic houses fall?

Yeah, let's all - call - the Mayor Now
And stop destruction of Freedmen's Town
Why sit around City Hall
While developers take it all?

Why sit around City Hall
And let developers take us all?

Barack: Now I've told the lie of my life
No I never told one like this before
Yes, we'll ride this through
and I owe it all to you

Hillary: : 'Cause I've told the lie of my life
and I owe it all to you

Barack: I've been waiting for so long
Now I've finally found someone
To stand by me

Hillary: We saw the writing on the wall
As we covered up this incredible tragedy

Both: Now with ambition in our eyes
As we try so hard to disguise it secretly
So we take each other's hand
'Cause we both understand the urgency

Barack: just remember

Hillary: Just this the one thing

Barack: To keep our story straight

Hillary: So I'll tell you something

Both: This could work because

(CHORUS)
Both: I've told the lie of my life
No I never told one like this before
Yes I we'll ride this one through
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've told the lie of my life
And I've closed every open door
To hide the truth
And I owe it all to you

Hillary: With my body and soul
I want to be President more than you'll ever know

Barack: So we can't just let it go
We don't dare lose control

Hillary: Yes I know whats on your mind
When you say:
"Your election depends on the certainty of mine"

Barack: Just remember
There just the one thing

Hillary: To keep our story straight

Barack: So I'll tell you something

Both: This could work because

Barack: Now I've told the lie of my life
No I never told one like this before

(Hillary: Never felt this way)

Barack: Yes I'll swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you

Both: 'Cause I told the lie of my life
And I've closed every open door
To hide the truth
and I owe it all to you

DEMOCRACY CALLS
(after Pussycat Dolls)

"Democracy Calls"
http://www.houstonprogressive.net/mp3/Demo0340.mp3

[…Forget what you’ve been told
Don’t be a fool
Real power
Belongs to you…]

I know you hate liars
Who won’t tell the truth
Running for office, promising change
That only we can do

It takes the whole planet
To bring justice and peace
When each one of us rises up
To reclaim responsibility

Don’t you wish the people would take - the - lead
And build a better government free, from greed
With power united, no longer divided

Why can’t we participate equally
And mediate to re-invent democracy, by
Free speech, free choice, free press, free voice

Go mint your own money [throw bills to audience]
Write your own laws
There’s more to religious freedom than
You might have thought there was

By the right to petition
Free speech and free press
There’s not a single conflict of interest
That you can’t redress (oh, yes!)

When we build a government free, of greed
And exercise our right, to democracy
By free speech, free choice, free press, free voice

Don’t you want a government free - from - greed
Defending and protecting us equally
From power corrupted, no longer disrupted

[…Forget what you’ve been told
Back when you were in school
"Whoever has the gold makes the rules"
Don’t be fooled - it ain't so
Whoever knows the rules
Cannot be bought or sold, so
Forget what you've been told
Don't be a fool
Real power
Belongs to you…]

The big corporate giants
Built on our backs
Shamelessly demand civil rights
Because they know these facts

They’re made up of people
Like me and like you
Why let a few destroy
Think what greater good we all can do
(whooo!!!)

When we run a government free – of – greed
And recognize our right, to equality
The people united, no longer divided

Don’t you want a government free -- from -- greed
Based on equal rights and true democracy
By free speech,
free voice, free press,

It’s your choice

"MILITARY MAN"(circa 1996?)
(After Eurythmics "Missionary Man")

I was born with a true sense of honor,
Then I learned that the truth never wins.
Before I go confess
To the Courts or the Press,
I'll have them piled under legal files up to their chins!

You mothers warn your girls
About the men like me!
You lawyers pray for no clients
To defend like me!

One thing I must make Jones
And Flowers understand --
You can fool with the Governor,
But don't mess with a Military Man!

Don't mess with a Military Man!
Don't mess with a Military Man!
Don't mess with a Military Man!

The Military Man,
He's got war on his mind!
He's got to fight off the women
Sneaking up from behind!

He's drafted troops to look
Through legal history books,
Fishing for whatever line
Gets him off the hook!

Did we amend the Constitution
And remove the Bill of Rights?
Or is the right to petition
Abridged before our eyes?

Should we stop all this suing,
Get down upon our knees,
And pray to Higher Courts
For injunctive relief?

Don't mess with a Military Man!
Don't mess with a Military Man!
Don't fall for his "missionary" stand!
Don't mess with a Military Man!

I became an original thinker
To think up ways to escape from my past.
Before I'm forced to confess
Any more to the Press,
We'll all be stuck in B.S. piled up to our . . . ahem!

Don't mess with a Military Man!
Don't mess with a Military Man!
Don't mess with a Military Man!

[repeat ad infinitum or until Clinton's lawyers
come up with something even more creative]

"Miss Lewinsky"
The following duet was inspired by "Miss Gradenko" by The Police. It is the writer's opinion that Bill, Hillary, Monica, Paula, and Gennifer should all go into group therapy together to uncover their past-life karma.

===============
"MISS LEWINSKY"The Opera

TENOR: When this nightmare ends, Miss Lewinsky,
Can we still be friends, Miss Lewinsky?
After all, we're two human beings!
Can't we talk and work through our feelings?

(aside) If I'd done the same with what's-her-name,
I wouldn't make the same mistake!
As President, who will pardon me?

Forgive me, Miss Lewinsky!
Miss Lewinsky, pardon me!
Please forgive me, Miss Lewinsky!
Miss Lewinsky, pardon me!

(passionately) For even God has forgiven me!
(That's the point of Christianity!)
I bow to Him, not the grand jury!

SOPRANO: It's not just between us, my dear,
It's not just between us!
It's not just between us and God
When Ken Starr is involved!

TENOR: When all briefings cease, Miss Lewinsky,
Will we be at peace, Miss Lewinsky?
Shall we go back to "normal relations"?
Send a message of hope to all nations?

(aside) If I'd made peace with Paula Jones,
I'd learn to deal with my hormones!
Not lose control of my presidency!

Please forgive me, Miss Lewinsky!
Miss Lewinsky, pardon me!

(passionately) Cuz even God has forgiven me!
I answer to Him, not the grand jury!
If God doesn't judge us, then why should we?

SOPRANO: It's not just between God and us
When Congress is involved!

It's not just between us and God
When politics are involved . . .

[repeat until the issue fades, or the
public grows sick of hearing it played]

"Miss You"

I've been holding out so long
I've been eating jelly beans all alone
Lord I miss you
I've been hanging on the phone
I've been demagoguing wefare queens all alone
I can't replace you

Well, I've been haunted in my sleep
Unions and welfare would slowly creep
Lord I miss you
I've been wanting taxes to fall
And been waiting on your call

When the phone rings
It's just some friends of mine that say,
"Hey, what's the matter man?
We're gonna come around at twelve
With some Republicans that are just dyin' to meet you.
We're gonna bloviate and whine
Hey, let's go mess with black folks minds
You know, like we used to"

Oh everybody waits so long
Oh Ronnie, why do we wait so long
Won't your replacement come on! Come on!

I've been walking in Central Park
Thinking days are looking dark
People saying I'm becoming reclusive
But what's with the party being so inclusive?

I've been stumbling on my feet
Wondering where's the next red meat
So conflicted about demographics
Asking people, "Why are we acting so damned democratic?"

Sometimes I want to say to myself
Sometimes I say

Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
I miss you Ronnie

I guess I'm lying to myself
It's just you and no one else
Lord I was thinking of you, Ronnie
Last time I was at Reagan International to fly out
Who else would get in the bathtub to
Let government die out?
Lord, I miss you, Ronnie, yeah

Call this Democracy?
(after Complicated / Avril Lavigne)

Uh-uh! You call this Democracy?
Know what? Huh. Looks like a mess to me.
Bureaucracy, it's not for me. Why spread it across the sea?
Hypocrisy. Totally. It's not how the world should be.

"Call this Democracy?"

When I - read Amendment One. Those words - speak to everyone:

We're free to live in peace -- equally as citizens
But we - lose to corporate whores. Can't win - on the auction floor
We pay for crime and war -- with no respect, for our consent

There's more to defense -- than for or against
You vote with rest -- or you're Communist?
That's not how it is -- there's a lot more than what we see
On TV

How can church and state ever claim to be separated
When Heaven knows it
Takes an act of God to keep government regulated
Can you call this democracy?
When you breach what you preach
And defend what you spend of our taxes
On the backs of working class poor too afraid to be emancipated?
I don't know . . .

We hold anger in our souls, until cancer takes control.
We won't -- let it go. The cure is prayer not Medicare!
We'll take any pill they give. Get hooked, lose our will to live.
Can't die. Can't pay our bills. So any dope can buy our vote!

If studies reveal - forgiveness can heal
And prayer is real, then why wheel and deal
With drugs from the pharmacy that can never treat us?
Sweet Jesus!

How can we expect to keep church and state separated
When Heaven knows it
Takes the grace of God to afford to get medicated?
And you call this democracy?
When you pimp any wimp
Who pretends he's a friend to the common
Man while he's collecting better benefits than half of the population?
I don't think so!

I wish - schools would tell the truth. And quit - selling out the youth
I know more would pass -- by teaching kids in smaller classes
But we - pack them wall to wall, till they - can't behave at all
Locked up - in study hall -- while tests are run, to get state funding.

More African males -- are sent off to jail
Where they learn to read -- after they plead.
They get their degrees -- while children are on the street.
It's crazy!

How do we expect to get anyone educated
When crime is costing
Us twice as much to keep people incarcerated?
In a backwards bureaucracy
Where we breach what we teach
And defend what we spend of our taxes
On the backs of working class slaves too afraid to be emancipated?
No, no --

How can church and state ever claim to be separated
When Heaven knows it
Takes an act of God to get anything legislated?
Can you call this democracy?
Where you breach what you preach
And you pimp any wimp who will campaign
In a game of playing both sides just to try to get higher ratings?
I don't think so . . .

Gilligan's Island

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from the living room
Of terrorists Bill and Bernadette

The candidate was a former organizer
His mate absorbed in hate
Together they all hatched a plan
On that ominous date

His writing started getting rough,
The terrible script was tossed,
If not for the dreams of the fearless crew
The Messiah would be lost, the Messiah would be lost.

The book would be written in a most unusual way
With Barack Obama,
Michelle too,
The millionaire and his wife,
Reverend Wright
The Weathermen Ayers and Dohrn
All sharing a dream for a day

So this is the tale of the castaways
They're in for the long, long haul
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The Messiah and Michelle too,
Will do their very best,
To keep the others anonymous
In this ruled by radicals quest

No photos, no recordings, no paper trail
An unusual Obama enterprise
Not built on fail
An enterprise not built on fail

So join us here each week my friends
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven underhanded castaways,
We'll be here for a long, long while

“PROLOGUE” TO JULIET AND ROMEO
A PLAY ON LIFE IN AMERICA Juliet Romeo A Play on Life in America
(sung grievously to “Lament” from Evita)
zzpxlpbr.gif

CONSTITUTIONAL PROFESSOR:
Two parties, the Republicans and Democrats,
Plague America, a civil war machine,
Competing, like the Montagues and Capulets,
For control of the Electors, sight unseen . . .

The people, so tired of fighting bureaucrats,
Incite a riot in our opening scene,
To protest the not-so-candid candidates
Divided Left and Right and in-between!

Like Romeo and Juliet,
Perhaps the parties never should have met!

zzpxlpbr.gif

“IT’S ELECTION DAY!”
(sung to “It’s a Typical Day”)
zzpxlpbr.gif

CHORUS:
Hey! It’s Election Day! All across the U.S.A.,
Where political folk do things in ridiculous ways!
We spend millions on silly campaigns! (scattering flyers)
Instead of investing in change! (dumping collection coin jar)
We let the majority whip the minority,
Hoping nobody complains!
And then we tune in to what Rush Limbaugh has to say!
We do it this way, the American way!
Hooray! for Election Day!

CHORUS scatters as swarm of POLICE enter, firing a warning shot.

(BANG!) You don’t elect your local police,
Trained to shoot (BANG!) for justice and peace!
Your tax dollars hire me and later retire me
To put younger guns on the streets!
We execute orders your judges are paid to say!
(saluting to judge) From the Presidency to the Military,
The Force will keep you free!

Actor who plays LORD MONTAGUE, steps out of character and up
onto the fountain or a soapbox, representing a REPRESENTATIVE.

REP: I’m your Congress! I make the laws!
(aside) (Never mind the Establishment clause!)
I run with the big PACs to write private contracts
On behalf of the masses because
I represent lobbyists who can afford to pay!

POLICE part crowd to move up tall judge made of BENVOLIO sitting on
MERCUTIO’S shoulders hidden under long black robe, swinging huge gavel.

BENVOLIO/MERCUTIO:
Come now to Court for legal redress! (clap-clap, clap-clap)
Unless you value free speech and press!
You must "writ" your petitions by strict definitions
And still make the deadlines, oh yes!
This system of justice presides over church and state!

Federal AGENT goes after the rioters. Crowd reads “IRS” on his briefcase and chase him.

PROFESSOR is left holding the First Amendment placard, helplessly.

PROFESSOR: Whether you go to church or state school,
(to crowd) You should know the old Golden Rule!

TYBALT: But this law was never meant to govern the Government,
Thrown in a separate pool!

Splash is heard as AGENT is dunked in the fountain.

ROMEO: Abridging our right to assemble more peaceably!

IRS AGENT: Don’t blame it on me if my own agency
Forget to file as a 501-(c)-3!

PROFESSOR disappears as the CHORUS crowds around the fountain.

PROFESSOR/CROWD raiding the Agent's briefcase:
Do away with the Federal Reserve!
Fund the arts to protect and to serve
Public education, not dumb legislation
That disrupts more peace than it preserves!
Creative alternatives may be the only way
To reduce violent crime while we fight to kill time

CHORUS, tossing bills and billets up in the air.

From Election to Election - From Election to Election -
From Election to Election Day! HOORAY!
{SONG ENDS}

CHORUS scatters through the audience, passing out flyers and soliciting donations to pay the starving actors.

"Blurred Lines"

[Intro: Rick Santorum]
Everybody watch out
Everybody watch out
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan

[Verse 1: Mitt Romney]
If you can't hear what I'm trying to say today
If you can't read from the same page today
Maybe you could go deaf,
Maybe You could go blind
Or maybe I'll drive you out of your mind
[Santorum] Everybody watch out

[Pre-chorus: Mitt Romney]
OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby, it's in your nature
Don't let them naturalize you
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
You don't need no papers
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
You should want to self-deport

[Chorus: Mitt Romney]
And If you're pregnant, good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
Get in that room and get unrobed
Get ready to get probed
I make these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
And you're a good girl
The way you're
barefoot and pregnant
You'll stay that way as long as I'm regnant
Go ahead, thank me
[santorum:] Everybody watch out

[Verse 2: Mitt Romney]
What do they make dreams for
I replace them with schemes for
Low wages and and the illiterate workforce
I feel so lucky
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
You wanna select me
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
What rhymes with select me?
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan

[Pre-chorus: Mitt Romney]
OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby it's in your nature
Just let me conservatate you
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
You don't need no papers
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
That man is not your maker
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan

[Chorus: Mitt Romney]
And that's why I'm not gon' take it from Candy Crowley
You can't believe her
You can't believe her
You can't believe her
She's not a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're not far from revisionism
I'm talkin' severve conservatism
[Santorum:] Everybody watch out
I make these blurred lines
I know you don't want it
I hate them unions
I know you don't want it
I hate them labor laws
I know you don't want it
But you're not a good girl
The way you rag on me
Sure wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Verse 3: Newt]
One thing I ask of you
If you have some indecision
I dropped my rocks at Tiffany's, boo
A little moral schism
Yeah, I had some bitches too, but that's just my patriotism
Just remindin' you,
That guy with magic underwear
He also got Romneycare
And gun control I swear!
If you want stretch and hedge
Just stick with Etch-a-sketch
But if you want true conservatism
In a fatter organism
you know I got the jizzm
You know I got the grove
Cooler code words too
Ain't no blurred lines!

[Bridge: Mitt Romney]
You 47%, ain't talkin' to ya
Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What, you don't like work?

[Pre-chorus: Mitt Romney]
Baby are you liquid? I got this from the Caymans
It always works for me, J. P. Morgan Chase
To the Presidental race, uh huh
If you come up a little short
Borrow from your daddy's place
If daddy ain't got jack
You just takin' space
And I'm wastin' smack
You ain't a main attraction
For this here Anglo-Saxon

[Chorus: Mitt Romney]
I always wanted a good girl
[Santorum] Everybody watch out
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
That'
She puts it in
That's why she got Rafalca

I make these blurred lines
[Santorum] Everybody watch out
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Outro: Santorum]
Everybody watch out
Everybody watch out
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan
Reagan, Reagan, Reagan

Political Hype Machine
Can be sung to "Only Time" by NIN

I think
And live and dream outside the box
So I don't have ears
for the noise that I hear
when our politicians talk

I don't see mediation
Cooperation or common respect,
Just bashing to discredit
Who each other elects

That's why I can't stand
To watch the evening news

The media's all messed up
Cuz nobody will fess up
We're equally biased in our views
The media's all messed up

The media's all messed up
Freedom of the press is what
We need to clean up all this abuse
The media's all messed up

Why keep the people down
Divided left and right
It keeps the ratings up
Inciting us to fight

Each side
Complains about the trash they read
From liberal slants
Conservative rants
The truth is in between

If we only gripe about the hype
Solutions can't be found
We've got to start standing
on common ground

Radical change
Begins with me and you

The media's all messed up
The media's all messed up
The media's all messed up and skewed
The media's all messed up

The media's all messed up
The media's all messed up
No - wonder we're so confused
The media's all messed up

Why keep the people down
Divided left and right
It keeps the ratings up
Inciting us to fight

The media's all messed up and skewed

If the same - people - make up both - the church - and state
How long - can we - afford to stay - separate
If the same - people - make up both - the church - and state
How long - can we - the people - stay separate

Down in Kansas City where the workers all go
There's a big steelworker named Soptic Joe
Married his high school sweetheart, his perfect match
She had a heart of gold and was so pretty, what a catch
Soptic Joe, now look at him go
Soptic, Soptic
Soptic Joe, go man go
Oh, oh, oh, oh Soptic Joe

She snuggled up to him when they went down the road
They bought a little house, and he happily carried the load
An old fixer upper, making their time together a bit more fun
And had a big back yard, where their little ones could run
Soptic Joe, now look at him go
Soptic, Soptic
Soptic Joe, go man go
Oh, oh, oh , oh Soptic Joe

One day they called him to the office, to see the clerk
They offered him a buyout, but Joe said, buddy, I'd rather work
Work was hard but steady, he wasn't told things had changed
He didn't know the truth, until the day the gate was chained
Soptic Joe, now look at him go
Soptic, Soptic
Soptic Joe, go man go
Oh, oh, oh, oh Soptic Joe

Soptic Joe was out of work, for six months straight
Before he took a low paying job, for his family's sake
He'd have to pay for the health coverage, it was very crude
But Joe had other obligations, like shelter and food
Soptic Joe, now look at him go
Soptic, Soptic
Soptic Joe, go man go
Oh, oh, oh, oh Soptic Joe

It was tough but they lived on love, she was no ordinary chick
Until the day his sweet wife said, honey I feel sick
She kept it to herself, while she gave and gave
Until the doctors told Joe, she was impossible to save
Soptic Joe, now look at him go
Soptic, Soptic
Soptic Joe, go man go
Oh, oh , oh, oh Soptic Joe

WILD CALIFORNIA

Preying on the nation, Maxxam Corporation
Bought Pacific Lumber as a logging operation
Up in Humboldt, trees took a tumble,
Raided pension funds, watching jobs going under

Endangered species in the redwoods have no price
Why cut our losses that our taxes paid for twice

Gypsy was a leader, came from Pasadena
Killed as a pawn in a political arena
Called for justice, to stop illegal logging
Died for a cause that will never be forgotten

Defending forests that preceded the birth of Christ
Don’t they deserve to survive

California redwood trees Standing up to corporate greed
Like the heavens in your reach Can’t we learn to live in peace
Yeah Yeah [silent prayer: Save - the - nation God's - Cre - a - tion]

In Headwaters Grove, there’s a major hole
Where the ecosystem’s dying by the droves
Bald eagles, left without a home
Elk River salmon, got nowhere to go now

How can we cut Mother Nature to the core Demanding more and more . . .

California redwood trees Rise against the force of greed
Like the heavens in your reach Can’t we all just live in peace Please Please

What if, the public knew the truth That land was bought by me and you
With junk bonds in the billions Bad loans we had to pay Hey

Hurwitz loves children, how could he be a villain
Blame it on the Board for making bad decisions
Sister Butterfly, prayed for him to listen
Saved her favorite tree, but the rest will cost millions
About Luna - Circle of Life

Can we agree to protect the remaining lands
In keeping with God’s plans . . . It’s in our hands . . .

Can’t we be like redwood trees Rise above the force of greed
Can’t we all, unite in peace Bringing heaven in our reach Yeah Yeah

Like the giant redwood trees Rise above our world of greed
Bringing heaven in our reach Can't we all just live in peace
==========================
DEDICATED TO THE NONVIOLENCE PEACEWORK OF DAVID GYPSY CHAIN
Who died in the Headwaters Forest protesting illegal logging that the State of California refused to police until this incident brought the conflict to public light.

Thanks and prayers to friends and family of Gypsy and Judy Bari carrying on their memory and dreams of saving the forest ecosystem and making the world a better place than how they left it....
