:salute:--from his son 8 years USMC
to my father who passed away
was at the Frozen Chosin--which started 26 Nov 1950
after 2 days and night of fighting the Chinese 2nd Offensive, his unit was tasked to make a difficult cross country march in hilly, snowy, icy terrain in 30 BELOW zero temps to go to the aid of Fox Company who was surrounded/taking causalities for days at a critical point on the MSR
...it was so cold and they were so tired the battalion commander had the COs repeat orders because of the physical/etc problems caused by the temps
...he was wounded near Fox Hill
..said he saw the napalm strike he thinks that got the Chinese that hit him
continued in next post

my father was wounded and his best friend found him
..his friend went looking for him
...later on this friend was wounded in the eye--the aid station said they couldn't do much, until he got to the next echelon of medical help
this friend was in a sleeping bag near the evening when the Marines were pulling back
....another Marine in one of the last trucks moving out saw what he thought were rags/etc, but decided to check on it--it was my dad's friend resting--good thing he checked or he might have been left behind
..these 3 were all friends from the same neighborhood
..so we have these stories of Marines taking care of each other--close friends

It's a relatively unspoken tradition that only Marines and former Marines are privileged to use the greeting "Semper Fi".
