Interesting. Never heard of Russian settlement in North American except of course Alaska.
Sebastopol, named after the Russian city, is also in Sonoma county. The Russians established a settlement at Fort Ross, near Bodega Bay, Sonoma.

Read the Wiki on Fort Ross after someone pointed out. Had only heard of Bodega Bay as reference in "The Birds". Sutter's Mill comes up due to gold discovery, but rest is not mentioned or glossed over, even in college.
