Hank Williams Jr, oops

You may be ready for football, but ESPN is not ready to let Hank Williams Jr. open tonight’s game after his incendiary comment about President Obama on Fox News.
The country singer criticized the president’s recent “golf summit” with Republican House Speaker John Boehner. The singer told Fox & Friends that the meeting “would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli leader] Benjamin Netanyahu.”

Where'd his freedom of speech go?

Apparently the same place the Dixie Chicks' did.

That does it! I'm not ever going to vote for Hank Williams Jr.!

You betcha!

Really? So who were those thousands of celebrities in sports broadcasting who compared Bush to Hitler,

and didn't lose their jobs?

Hank Jr is in sports broadcasting?

I guess not if you don't consider Monday Night Football a 'sport' and if you don't consider it's showing to be a 'broadcast'.

Monday Night Football was using Hank Williams Jr.'s "introduction"....so no, he's not a sports broadcaster in any meaningful sense

Where dumb fuck?

Are the people who dump trash at the stadium sports janitors?

You're a fucking idiot.

There are times when the obvious really does have to be stated. And, for some posters, that seems like it is necessary to be told the obvious more often than not.

;)

He's public school educated. I am sure he appreciates you dumbing it down for him. Perhaps now he comprehends.

Classy.

No it was NOT exactly classy. Nor are comments by Morgan freeman, Roseann Barr, Nancy Pelosi, Sean Penn to name a few !

Right. For crying out loud he is a country singer, not a public office holder. Its no different then conya west, dixie chicks, ted nugent (big time asshole) or who ever. There business is to say crazy shit. The PC police need to pit there night sticks away and get over it.

Well true. But as Kanye West, the Dixie Chicks and Ted Nugent found out..it's gonna cost them in the pocketbook/wallet department.

It will, but it is still stupid. There advertisers should expect them to say crazy shit and deal with it. The fact that its news is just stupid.

Another, dumb, ignorant, hillbilly, redneck huckster saying racist crap...what else is new?

Is he, by chance, related to Hayluh Bawbuh?

I do NOT see racism in that comment. However, you lefties seem find it at your convenience!

Our Freedom of speech means the freedom to criticize your political opponents in both parties without repercussions of your job or anything else.
Tells you something about ESPN doesn't it? I'm sick of political correctness. Juan Williams should not have lost his job or Imus. Imus got fired for a bad joke for heavens sake. Socialism has gone way to far.

wow! another celebrity opens their mouth to prove they're an idiot... how is this news?

You're overlooking the bigger picture: MONEY.

just an FYI, whiners...

Freedom Of Speech In The Workplace: The First Amendment Revisited

Employees in the public sector – who work for governmental entities – have First Amendment rights in the workplace, subject to certain restrictions. The case law that has developed over time regarding First Amendment rights in the workplace has come from the public sector, as the government is directly affecting employees in public sector cases. There are no Washington cases that this author is aware of where freedom of speech has been protected under the First Amendment in private sector workplaces.

it never ceases to amaze me how badly people misinterpret the 1st amendment.

Exactly
So you cancel your subscription to ESPN.
If this has offend you, by what they did to Hank Jr. and then you go and watch it at friends house who wasn't offended by it.
MONEY talks if there would be enough cancellations.

Well..no.

Advertisers are selling a product. They want to map that product to things that they think will sell that product.

That's the bottom line.

This would apply if he had said this on ESPN.

It was a valid comparison.

Valid in what sense?

Hitler and Obama were and are Christians?
Hitler and Obama thought and think that Christ are their saviors?
Hitler and Obama were and are leaders of powerful nations?

Well yeah. It's pretty valid if you take that stuff into consideration.

No it wouldn't. ESPN is privately owned.
