NABLUS, West Bank (AP) — The Islamic militant group Hamas staged on Thursday its first public demonstration in the West Bank since 2007, illustrating its improving ties with the rival Fatah movement after a five-year rift.

The show of force by Hamas reflected the group's popularity in Palestinian society following an eight-day battle against Israel last month and its rising influence as Islamists rise to power across the region.

Hamas said about 5,000 supporters of the Islamic militant group took to the streets in Nablus after prayers Thursday.

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Hamas has staged new rallies in the West Bank, one day after thousands of its activists turned out for the first marches there by the militant group there in five years.

Friday's marches in several cities appeared larger than Thursday's demonstrations, the first in the Palestinian territory since the 2007 split in which Hamas seized Gaza and the secular-leaning Fatah was left in control of the West Bank.

It's an interesting story. NABLUS is actually the ancient city of SHECHEM----That city shows up in the bible ----here is the story>>> DINA was the daughter of JACOB----sister to those 12 boys Dina made friends with the DAUGHTERS of the people of
SHECHEM-----other girls ------and went out visiting but somehow got a bit "molested"
by the BOYS of shechem The sons of jacob were incensed-----If I remember correctly ---a FEW OF THEM----including SHIMON and LEVI-----kinda fought with the
boys from Shechem etc etc anyway---eventually the people of shechem seemed
to have become converts to Jacob's group------ie they essentially became Jews ---but
I am not entirely sure about that.

ok now----shechem was a part of ancient ISRAEL/JUDEA ----probably Judea---but
I am not absolutely sure. When ROME conquored and occupied Israel/judea---they REBUILT SHECHEM and called it "NEOPOLIS" (new city in the language oF prescription writing doctors) When the dogs of mecca invaded "palestine" since
they cannot pronounce the letter "B" they called NEOPOLIS
NABLUS and that is the whole story
