I was coming back down from walking around a quiet town in Canada.
I had sunshine, rain and snow. I had it all for a day.
I drove down to the Canadian border and paid my toll to pass through the tunnel. The border agent was wearing a light jacket and his shirt was open.
Then I went across the border back to my homeland.
The United States of America.
There was a guard wearing heavy body armor. Across from me I saw another guard wearing a helmet and so much body armor that I had pushed him over in a snow pile he wouldn’t have been able to get up, let alone handle a weapon with ease and skill.
I produced my driver’s license but something went wrong.
The guard got on the phone and said, ‘I’ve got a bad number.’
The camera they used to take a picture of my license plate number malfunctioned.
It missed the zero at the end of my plate.
The guard immediately became animated and asked for the keys to my car.
He then asked me to pop my trunk and he searched it. Then he opened the rear door of my car and searched my car. Then he opened the canvas sack I had my clothes and toothpaste in and he searched that.
I had my birth certificate with me but these guys didn’t want to make sure I was an American - they just wanted to violate just about every freedom I have been guaranteed.
What if their equipment had malfunctioned and they tagged me, an American whose settler family ancestry in this nation dates back to 1621 and whose Native American ancestry dates back much farther than that, as a terrorist?
What if they had shot and killed me instead of searching my vehicle?
My wife would have gotten a phone call and they would tell you they did the right thing.
Would you question the motives of man dressed in combat gear and carrying heavy weapons at the border? If you don’t question it now they will end up on your street corners taunting your children and searching your wife.
I’ve had just about enough.
Well, how about you?

Gee, seems none of those 'what ifs' happened, other than perhaps your original 'scenario.' Here you are, posting on a messageboard, about the evil US, so you must have gotten free.

see how well trained they are?....what if next week you drive between iraq and syria?

They are not well trained and their equipment is too expensive and bought from companies with connections that are sucking our tax money out of the country like a siphon.:clap2:

What would you have done in the same position? And remember you are trained to find abnormal things? And the equipment maybe expensive it has to be to meet force with force. Too me it sounded like you did what you were told and you were released unharmed and you witnessed these men doing there jobs in a smart manner. I'm hoping you'll answer my question honestly.

I'm just guessing now, but I'll bet you didn't ask, and or, express your displeasure to the authorities, there at the boarder crossing did ya?

Just curious as to WHY you would come to THIS forum, and ask such questions?

Do everyone a BIG favor, craw back under the rock, that you spend most of your waking hours, and go back to reading Mao's works.

As to what I feel about what happened to YOU, the boarder crossing people did there job, and I'm pleased they were able to single you out, shows their training is paying off.:clap2:

Sure they are. The saw an anti-American like you for what you are real quick, sounds like.

Nothing related to our government buying from the private sector DOESN'T suck our tax money out of the country like a siphon.

I see however that YOU had no problem spending American dollars in support of another nation's economy.

Us Immigration and Customs is miserable. Those guys are total pricks.

No better or worse than anyone else in a position of power and penchant for abusing their authority.

I've been through customs probably a hundred times and the officer have always been courteous when they have gone so far as to even ask me a question. I imagine their reaction might have something to do with the way they are approached. Cranston's a self-righteous moron with a overly-inflated civil rights chip on his shoudler. He probably brought on anything he got.

Try being on the other side of the coin. I've walked posts in all climes and places, and there's always that self-righteous nimrod who wants to challenge your authority. Most posts in the Marines are 24 hours, unless you're walking a four on four off guard post. You come around f-ing with me, and i have nothing better to do than F- with YOU.

Sounds right to me, Gunny. I'll be you can spot a bad attitude right away.

Most times, you can see them coming at ata good distance with "ATTITUDE" stamped on their chests in neon. I always tried my best to just ingore it and get through the job as painlessly as possible. But, there're always those that won't let you.

A drunken sailor returning from Hong Kong to the ship on my last deployment comes to mind. He was not going to be denied nor ignored ensuring that everyone on the brow knew he was disrespecting me,my rank, my position as SDNCO, and the fact that I was a Marine. What was it over?

He refused to produce his ID because "everybody" on board knew who he was. In other words, he came to pick a fight because all active duty military personnel are required to carry their military ID on their person at all times. Exception to that rule is made for PT, but not coming back aboard ship after liberty in a foreign port.

He got to spend the night in the brig for his troubles, and expalin himself to the Command Master Cheif the next day.
