The rw's keep saying we should ban cars because people get killed using them. Yes, we all know its a really dumb position but there's a kernel of wisdom buried deep in their non-position.

Why not treat guns the way we treat cars? A long time ago, we realized that the human beings who drive cars are very flawed on several levels and that fact leads to maiming and death.

The same is true of guns. Why not license the ownership of something that has only one possible use - killing.

What would you support?

Why or why not?

The "RWer" was demonstrating absurdity by being absurd.

No surprise to me you didn't understand that.

Let's look at cars vs guns shall we?

62,000,000 cars kill 40,000 per year. Of which 25,000 are drunk driving related.

300,000,000 kill 30,000 per year of which the vast majority is bad guys killing bad guys.

Cars are used to transport us from point A to point B, and they do it very well. thus, even though they kill so many people they are a net gain for society. In other words their cost-benefit analysis is positive.

How about guns? Statistics show us that over 2 million times a year citizens use guns to prevent harm to themselves or others. So, once again their cost-benefit analysis is positive.

Add to that the original intent of the Ammendment which is to protect US citizens from their government, and there really is no comparison at all.

dont you fascist progressives feel sick about using dead kids to further you agendas?

Unfortunately Federal courts have upheld permits/licenses and their fees as Constitutional.

They’re not, in my opinion, just as requiring a state issued ID (with a fee) to vote is just as un-Constitutional.

And gun ownership, like voting, is a right – driving is not.

There is also no evidence a ‘licensed’ gun owner will be more safe than an owner without a license, just as some of the most dangerous and deranged drivers have licenses.

It would be yet another effort to enact a de facto ban on firearms, as many might not be able to afford the fee – the same situation with voter ID requirements.

I would oppose such a licensing scheme on a Federal level, sadly the states and local jurisdictions are seemingly at liberty to violate their citizens’ civil liberties concerning the Second Amendment.

If the rule of law is to have any meaning, any authority, any value, it must be applied consistently.

How about guns vs. alcohol.

We control alcohol, we don't allow children to drink alcohol, you must show ID to drink alcohol in a bar or buy alcohol, we hold people responsible for their actions while under the influence.

Is that what you meant?

And we control firearms too. Morons give them to children, the same as morons give alcohol to children. In spain, drinking at a young age is part of the deal. We hold people responsible for their actions with firearms too if they misuse them.

Is that the point you tried to obfuscate?

Every day in the United States, there is at least one child under the age of fourteen killed by a gun.

If the present trends continue, in less than three years, gun violence with kill more people than traffic deaths in the US.

There are millions of assault weopons in public hands. We have given easy access to weapons of war to the crazies in our society. And now we are reaping the results.

As far as I can tell, that's the way the gun nuts want it.

They don't even want measures that would make it illegal for known terrorists, mentally ill, criminals and illegal aliens to buy guns.
