All you people who are advocating for firefighters to carry weapons are aware of the fact that in extreme heat (i.e. a fire), ammo can cook off right? If they are armed, then they're going to have to take time to make sure they don't have a weapon before they go into the flames, because otherwise it could become a real problem.

25 December 2012 - Seven homes were destroyed on a narrow stretch of land beside Lake Ontario

A man alleged to have lured two US volunteer firefighters to their deaths in Webster, New York left a long note outlining his plans, police say. No motive was given but the note left by William Spengler, identified as the gunman said he was planning to "do what I like doing best - killing people." Police searching Spengler's burnt-out house say they have found human remains - believed to be those of his sister. The firefighters were shot dead as they arrived to tackle a fire on Monday. At a news conference on Tuesday, police said Spengler, 62, had three guns and aimed to burn down his neighbourhood.

Seven homes on a narrow stretch of land beside Lake Ontario were destroyed by the fire. Another two firemen and an off-duty police officer were wounded in the attack. Police Chief Gerald Pickering told reporters that Spengler, who apparently shot himself in the head, had used a .38 calibre revolver, a 12-gauge shotgun and a Bushmaster .223 calibre rifle with flash suppression. The same make and calibre rifle had been used in the murder of 26 teachers and children at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut on 14 December, he said.

The police chief told reporters in Webster that a two- to three-page note from the gunman had been found in which he said: "I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighbourhood I can burn down and do what I like doing best - killing people." At a later briefing, Mr Pickering said human remains were found in the house Spengler shared with his 67-year-old sister, Cheryl. Police believe the remains are hers. Spengler and his sister lived with their mother until her death in October.

December 25, 2012 - Police in the town of Webster, in the northeastern U.S. state of New York say they have found human remains in the burned-out house of an ex-convict who set the dwelling on fire and shot at the firefighters who arrived to put out the flames.

Police say they suspect the remains are those of the sister of 62-year-old William Spengler. A medical examiner will determine the identity. Spengler lived with his sister, who has not been seen since Monday's blaze.

Spengler shot and killed two firefighters and wounded two others before killing himself. Police say he left behind a chilling note saying he wanted to do what he does best -- killing people.

Authorities searching Spengler's house found a revolver, a shotgun and a semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle, which was used to shoot the firefighters. The Bushmaster is the same type of gun used in the December 14 massacre of 20 children and six teachers at a Connecticut elementary school.

Spengler had spent 17 years in prison for the beating death of his 92-year-old grandmother. As a convicted felon, he was not allowed to own guns. Police are trying to figure out how he obtained the weapons.

I guess I will take this one for those who are this bat crap crazy ignorant in life........Kidding me right, who said anything about them carrying weapons or ammo into a fire ? They if were armed, would only use their weapons and their ammo if need be in an extreme situation that called for such to be the case, and only when come upon a scene under fire, and that fire is being directed straight at them where as they would take appropriate action in order to secure such a scene as first responders to such a situation, in which they would have come under hostile fire as this situation was against them. Again in this world that is becoming more and more hostile in these ways, we had best wake up and smell the coffee that is brewing now all around us. I know that I wouldn't want to be a first responder without a weapon these days, and it would be my wishes to be able to defend myself and my co-workers if need be.

Maybe we need to send the police along with every call now by protocol, and as an escort, because we darn sure don't need these people being gunned down like this in America for whom are just there to help.

Hey I bet back in the wild wild west, the people that you speak of could handle themselves in situations quite well and quite easily, and if we continue becoming as the wild wild west once was back then, and sadly more and more and more these days, there is no telling what we will have to do in order to answer the call of the wild yet again in this nation.

I know what is going to happen: (1) assault weapons and (2) large capacity magazines are going to be prohibited and confiscated. Crimes are going to get a 10 to 20 year add on to any sentence when a gun is used. A murder that results from a gun will be automatic execution within a specified time, all cases moved to the head of the line. That will slow the militia far right as well as the inner city gangs.
