Gun toting soccer mom shot dead

Not enough information here to make any kind of judgement. If it was the man that did the killing, then the lady had good reason to pack constantly. Again, however, I am not seeing enough information to make any kind of judgement in this case.

i have to agree with Rocks....see Rocks there is hope...

CNN) -- Soccer mom Melanie Hain, who made national headlines last year by having a loaded, holstered handgun at her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game, has been found shot dead in her home along with her husband, police said Thursday.

Information from 911 calls shows that it took a SWAT team nearly an hour and a half to gain entry to the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, home Wednesday evening. Inside, they found the bodies of Hain, 31, and her husband, Scott, 33, police Capt. Daniel Wright said.

Police have avoided labeling the incident a murder-suicide. However, they do not believe that another person was involved, Wright said. A full investigation is under way, he added.

"Who [Melanie Hain] is does not change the course of this investigation," he said. The autopsies are scheduled for Friday.

Melanie Hain's attorney, Matthew B. Weisberg, said she told him a few months ago that she and her husband were separating. It was not immediately clear whether they were still living together.

so youre happy?

Hmmm, could you point out where the expressions of happiness are so that I can share in your outrage?

It's sad that this happened but even sadder because some will use it to further their own agenda.
No, sad is not quite the proper word, it's disgusting and pathetic that some will exploit this incident to further their own agenda.

It seems you are using it to promote your own agenda.

How sad.

You fucking idiot, you are the one who is using it to promote your agenda. You started the thread, you keep reiterating it's news because she carried a gun to a rally.

Hain was in her kitchen talking with a friend via webcam just before her death, police said.

The friend, who police will not name, was looking away from the computer screen when he heard a shot and a scream, police said. He turned back to the monitor, he told police, and no longer saw Meleanie Hain but instead saw Scott Hain firing several rounds from a handgun toward where his wife had been.

Police said that the woman's body had already fallen to the floor by the time the friend turned back to the screen.

Scott Hain then went upstairs to a bedroom, where he shot himself in the head with a 12-gauge shotgun, police said.

Meleanie Hain was shot several times with a 9 mm handgun, police said. Her fully loaded 9 mm handgun was found in her backpack hanging on the back of the front door.

The couple's three children were home at the time of the killings, police Capt. Daniel Wright said. They were unharmed and took refuge at a neighbor's house before police arrived, he said.

I think the newsworthiness is in the irony. Sad as it is the fact that a husband shot dead his wife in their own home would probably not make the international media (the incident has been reported here). The obvious irony is that she carried the handgun at a kid's soccer game. But there are others. She felt safe enough in her own home not to keep a gun on her person. But she was murdered in her own home. She wasn't murdered in her own home by an intruder but by her husband (apparently). More irony.

She shouldn't have put it in the safe locker when she was home and kept it on her there as well. This just proves more than allowing people to carry guns can save more lives, she wasn't killed when it was available.

I know you are dense, but here's how it looks:

When she had the gun on her, nothing bad happened.

When she didn't have the gun on here, she got shot by someone else.

That's logic and the norm.

The ultimate in willfull naivity! Show me proof where any weapon has jumped up, pointed itself at someone, pulled it's own trigger and killed someone.
Go to the FBI website and check out the study they completed last year. The FBI (you've heard of them right) disagrees strongly with your premise that "guns don't save lives".
And if you wish move to any country that has a total weapons ban and you will find their murder rates at much higher than ours.

.. ...

no, no that's not what it proves at all. it, along with every stat out there on guns proves two things: they're good for making you think you are safe, and suicide. Had she had the gun physically on her at the time, it wouldn't have made a difference. No lives would have been "saved".

I've heard some pretty neurotic things from you, but this one takes the cake.

And the antigunners wax poetic at a tragedy.

And you know that if she'd had her weapon immediately to hand she couldn't have gotten off at least one shot in self defense exactly how?

We had fifteenk fire arms homicides a couple of years back in that same year over 1million people used a handgun to desuade an attacker. In the overwhelming majority of cases they never had to fire a shot.

So yeas guns can be used to preserve life as well as take it and the former happens with far greater frequency than the latter.

False. Guns are not used to save lives with a greater frequency than to take them. They are not good at keeping people safe. They are good at making you think you're safe, and they are good for suicide. This is not a random opinion, this is based on evidence of actual use.

"Firearm self-defense is rare compared with gun crimes."
