Dr. Zhivago is another.

Pink Panther still gets a laugh.

Dr. Strangelove, also.

Swept Away still strikes me as the best tragic romantic movie I ever saw.

I found nothing redeeming about Swept Away.

That's strange.

I found nothing redeeming about Swept Away.

No accounting for taste, MW.

Your POV is as valid as mine.

Perhaps the fact that I was deeply in love with a soon to be multi-millionairess and that we both understood that our affair was ultimately doomed played a part in my affection for that movie.

We were swept-way (at college) and I think we both knew it.

Not up to par with today's special effects...but a great one.

Shawshank - Really, really done well. Continues to be #1 at IMDB voting
The Green Mile - Really, really done very well!
My Name is Nobody - Nobody knows about it!
Forrest Gump - C'mon, the Gump ran away with all the Oscars that year.
Absolute Power - SO well done, you thought Eastwood might have had some inside info on the current (at the time) occupant of the WH
Field of Dreams - Well, well done
Fandango - Early road movie from Costner... Texas based
The Cowboys - You kidding me? Bruce Dern gets to kill the Duke?
Presumed Innocent - Harrison Ford really shows his acting chops in this one. Rare work by the late Raúl Juliá, who I for one really miss.
A Perfect World - Deeply personal family history for me here.

Yay!! Finally somebody who's seen Sling Blade. All through that movie, I kept wondering when Billy Bob Thornton was going to make an appearance, and it wasn't until it was almost over that it dawned on me that the main character WAS HIM. Billy Bob is one of the most talented character actors in show business.

Okay, I wouldn't say that's in my top 5, though. Those would be:

Serpico
The Godfather (original, not II and III)
Forrest Gump

and two others that are just outstanding, but probably will be forever overlooked:
