Gun ownership rights are under attack.

Rabbi -

So do you accept that we can compare the Top 20 western countries by gun ownership and by homicide rate, we will see a correlation of 18 or 19 out of 20?

How do you explain that correlation?

Because surely if culture is the issue, as you say, then comparing countries with vastly different cultures, we would see vastly different homicide rates.

But we don't. So why don't we?

Who says we dont? Compare France with South Africa and you will see a big difference. Compare Brazil with Germany and you will see a big difference.

I think most sensible people would prefer to compare western countries with other western countries - not with virtual war zones.

I understand that your argument only holds water if you compare the US with active war zones, but you're not likely to fool many people with that I think.

Please explain to me how having a gun in my home denies anyone their rights.

Because it exposes other people entering your home to a greater chance of death by gun shot wound. Hence, their rights are compromised.

Fact.

Fact.

Only if they are uninvited. Fact.

And if they are uninvited, they are violating my rights. Fact.

We are comparing different cultures. France and Germany really dont have very different cultures. Both are western socialist states.
France and South Africa do have very different cultures, but similar gun laws. And yet the rate of deaths from shootings vary widely. The difference is not laws but culture. QED.

Actually, both France and Germany have CONSERVATIVE governments, genius!!!

When we compare developed countries -

- those with high levels of gun ownership have high levels of homicide.
- those with low levels of gun ownership have low homicide rates.

And this fact is true in 19 out of 20 countries ranked.

Until you can explain that, you do not have a case.

Several more civilized countries view the USA as a virtual war zone.

Yes, I agree - and there is some basis in that.

194 people died in Germany of gun shot wounds last year.

In 2006, 10,100 died in the USA.

That is almost a war zone statistic, isn't it?

All kinds of weapons msut be made available to US citizens, fully automatic assault rifles,
handguns. "The States must maintain the rights of citizens to form a free and ready States militia" "The rights of the States militia must not be infringed upon."
This is the United States constitution.!!
There must be no bans imposed upon US citizens whatsoever!!

True no Gay marriage ban.

I don't have it to hand, but next time I have a bit more time I'll put it together for you. I compiled it and posted it a year or so back on another forum, and it really is quite astonishing. I wish I'd kept a copy of it now.

But you can check the basic numbers anywhere like nationmaster and wikipedia and you'll see the pattern immediately.

Finland has high gun ownership. Finland has a high homicide rate.

Sweden has lower gun ownership. Sweden has a lower homicide rate.

And so it goes.

guns are for our pertection. is it are falt that the bad guys do wrong?. and we all are suppose to be punished?. i think not!!!!!

Where does Switzerland rate?

I keep posts that I spent a lot of time researching in the BLOG section of this site for easy reference.

I think that most of those guns in switzerland has are rusting away in closets.

What do you think most guns in the U.S. are doing?

There are 250 million privately owned firearms in the U.S.

right but citizens are not given the firearms by their military.

the average swiss citizen has how many guns?

The average American has how many guns?
I have over 20 myself.
