I'm not going to bother to track down the stats for you, but yes, that actually is how most people get shot.
They get shot by people they know, not by criminals, not even by deranged gun nuts, but by basically normal people who get angry or drunk or stupid who happen to be armed.
That's still not a good reason to ban weapons, but those are the facts, jack.
