They can't, its a foreign corporation. That's what the escrow account was about, to ensure funds. It should have been much more, all things considered, but there's always the possibility of the US taxpayer getting out of the recliner to put political pressure on the other two companies (Halliburton and Transocean) to do the same.

What do you mean they "can't"? Every right winger on this board will tell you we are the most powerful nation in the world. We have enough bombs to blow up our planet twenty times over. We CAN, and we SHOULD. $20B is a good start, but will never come close to finishing the job, IMHO.

It would be a consitutional issue, as just saying "we sieze your assets" is punishment without due process. No court in thier right mind would ever allow it to happen.

Really? Didn't we sort of seize Iraq's assets when we invaded? We never declared war on them, so how did we get around the whole" Constitutional issue" on that deal?

At this point, the leak is bad enough that I believe the US Government shoudl forcefully take over BP and freeze all of their assets to ensure bankruptcy is NOT an option for them.

Our country had engaged in war-like acts ("low impact" "counter" terrorism against collective bargaining initiatives and agrarian reforms) on BEHALF of corporations, Van, not ever, and not once in opposition to them. Not one single time. There is over a century and a half of corporate person hood at play here, laws written and agreements made with the WTO, the IMF, and the WB that preclude any such measures, as it would be restraining to business activity, and against the international agreements we are beholden to. See, if the tea party were truly aware of the threat, they might address THIS affront to and impingement upon our (and any others) sovereignty. Most American's aren't. More's the pity, and the shame.

We're you not aware that the Dem/Libs/Progressives/NeoNazis are now claiming that there's a "Good Idea" exception in the Constitution?

If the President feels it's a "Good Idea" he can just go ahead and do it

Because Iraq was a foreign country, and thier people and land arent covered by our consitution. BP is working in our economic exclusion zone, with offices in our country, and thus are protected by our laws.

Also Iraq's assets are now controlled by thier own government, not by ours.

BP chief executive Tony Hayward took a day off Saturday to see his 52-foot yacht "Bob" compete in a glitzy race off England's shore, a leisure trip that further infuriated residents of the oil-stained Gulf Coast.

While Hayward's pricey ship whipped around the Isle of Wight on a good day for sailing — breezy and about 68 degrees — anger simmered on the steamy Gulf Coast, where crude has been washing in from the still-gushing spill.

There must be half a dozen threads on here, started by right wingers, about Obama playing golf during this disaster. Why are they not jumping all over Hayward?

Let's see.. one yachting event vs. how many parties, concerts and games of golf?

Bush declared war on Iraq?

I have jumped all over Hayward on many occasions. He's a joke. His lame comments like "I want my life back" have p*ssed off most Americans. So i disagree with the premise of your post. I'm p*ssed off at both of them. This BP buffoon went yachting and this President went Golfing again over the weekend. They're both incompetent dunces. Both deserve to be on every American's chit-list.

Once you get Michael Steele's dick out of your mouth, we can talk...

what a joke of a thread to BEGIN WITH. You will criticize a CEO, but not your hero President and his comrades in arms.

just MORE cover from our enemy media and the lefties for this Obama's administrations FAILURES.

Then look up the definitions of words like .. ceasefire .. and resume hostilities.

Barb is willing to concede the Biggest Fucking Retard on USMB Contest after that.

You've been schooled repeatedly on this topic and we believe you are not capable of learning.
