I think both sides forget that their enemies are actually people and not the spawn of Satan. Personally I'm not sure why they consider it worth it to have their homeland there or what else anybody expected to happen when Israel was established there.

I think it was British Foreign Secretary at the time of the establishment of Israel, Ernest Bevin, who warned that the creation of Israel will send the region into decades of wars and violence... Of course he was labeled anti-semitic.
