Greening Industries

Once again I see politicians on TV asserting that adhering to the Kyoto Protocols will cost jobs.

But hang on. Sure it will cost money to cut emissions (And I see that America has reduced industrial pollution by 10% over the last 3 years.) but that money spent will mean more jobs. More jobs = more income tax and less unemployment.

Reclamation and recycling are industries themselves. Industries that employ people.
Many big US businesses get tax breaks for various reasons. Why not make them work a little harder for them? Sure they won't be making such big profits but then if the bottom line was everything they would all be selling illegally logged timber (which has a higher profit margin than crack oddly).

It will result in a net loss of jobs, despite your predicted boom in recycling jobs.

Your thinking is assbackwards, ya know.

It would be nice if either of you supported your assertions with facts.

When industry claims lost jobs, they mean in that particular industry. They have neither the need nor the inclination to provide a balanced view.

Yes, there will be movement in the job market. Neither position in this discussion has included factual evidence regarding whether the resultant balance will be a net gain or loss.
