The Greeks operate in relation to their economical and population size one of the most powerfull Armies.
Especially the Navy is remarkable with 14 Frigates and 8 Submarines, with further 3 U-214 German Submarines currently under delivery.

Also the Greeks will order 6 Italian-French FREMM-Frigates, which currently are in design phase and will be available from 2012 on.
It is a very modern multiporpose design of a Frigate equipped with naval cruise missiles

The Greeks will operate in the next coming years
- 20 Frigates
- 11 Submarines

Off course to US standards this is nothing but for the size of Greece and in comparison to same sized countries this is potent.

I do not know exactly where the displacement of the Greek Navy puts it, but it must be somewhere on 6th or 7th position in terms of fleet displacement within NATO, this for a country of 11 Million.

EDIT:
Did post in total wrong forum. Sorry about that, was not intention.

As long as the Turks don't try to re-establish the Ottoman Empire, I don't see how this could be a threat?

Not to mention the Greeks spend roughly $5 billion on their military, while Turkey spends $45 billion. Who's threatening who?

Alexander of Macedon (supposedly "great") once said when asked who his empire should go, "to the strongest."

That is not Greece.

And Kemal Ataturk's secular dream is dying like a Turkish delight which has died in the night.
