The Greek government issued a statement on Friday, saying that the departure of ships with Greek and foreign flags from Greek ports to the maritime area of Gaza has been prohibited. The statement explained that this is in a bid to prevent a breach of Israel’s naval blockade.

The Greek government stressed that local Hellenic Coast Guard Authorities must take all appropriate measures to implement the decision. It also warned that the broader maritime area of the eastern Mediterranean Sea will be continuously monitored by electronic means for tracking the movement of ships trying to participate in the flotilla.

Naval authorities have already implemented the order, blocking both an American and Canadian ship planning to participate in the pro-Palestinian Gaza flotilla set to take place next week.

The life of an anti Israeli militant on a fake humanitarian aid mission ain't easy.

Ya' think they'll head for Syria instead?

Greece has so far failed to disclose what legal justification they have to hold the boat.

We're going to have to start calling you Whiplash Tinmore. They are holding the ships because the US, Israel, Greece and others think trying to break the blockade is illegal and an irresponsible provocation that may lead to unnecessary harm to some individuals.

All political bullcrap of course.

What is the legal justification?

Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and by most western countries and it is illegal under international law and the laws of most western countries to give aid to terrorist organizations. Since the flotilla aims to make it easier for Hamas and other terrorist organizations to import weapons by breaking the blockade, it is in violation of all of these laws and it is legal for any country to stop it.

Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization

All third grade name calling aside, the flotilla is a people to people movement. The rest is all Israeli propaganda bullcrap.

Nonsense. If the flotilla organizers or passengers, or you for that matter, had any interest in the welfare of the people of Gaza, they would be trying to liberate them from the clutches of Hamas, not trying to break the blockade to make the Hamas oppressors of the people of Gaza stronger.

Gaza has been under some form of siege for decades.

What was Israel's stupid excuse before Hamas became their boogyman?

BTW, "Today, the United Nations views Palestinians as freedom fighters, struggling against the unlawful occupation of their land by Israel, and engaged in a long-established legitimate resistance, yet Israel regards them as terrorists."

So says a Lebanese diplomat, but the UN officially sees Hamas as a terrorist organization as do the governments of most western nations. Hamas has been a terrorist organization for decades and was the principal reason the Gaza fence was built and the one kilometer buffer zone had to be built which required the destruction of some of Gaza's orchards. Virtually everything Hamas has done in the last quarter of a century has been to the detriment of the Palestinian Arab people, most especially those in Gaza.

Ooooo terrorist. Israeli propaganda BS.

If the terrorist designation was fact bases, the whole world would be an the same page. But, It is based on political bullcrap so that designation is not universal.

This is deeply concerning. Greece knew what these boats were up to when she let them in. It seems there were no problems with her laws then. The only possibility is that Greece has come under pressure and is not acting under her own sovereignty and as such cannot be said to be serving the people who elected her, hence is not acting as a democracy.

The Audacity of hope was carrying letters of friendship to the people of Gaza.

There is something very wrong here.

My own country did something similar yesterday. Having allowed Sheikh Raed Salah to freely enter the country and speak with MP's and give other talks, he was arrested yesterday because he was apparently banned. This makes no sense as the police would have known about this and he was under police surveillance. Clearly if he was banned, they would have arrested him immediately and put him in jail. Again the reason seems somewhat obscure.

It is much harder to hide all these messing in other countries affairs, now we have the internet. I am sure a lawyer will sort this out and Greece, having made a total fool of itself will need to pay recompense for both the needless delays it caused earlier and this frightening experience the passengers had.

A countries sovereignty is a countries sovereignty and if Greece had a problem with the flotilla leaving she would not have let her enter. That is obvious. She clearly is not in charge of her own affairs.

Hundreds of people have broken or attempted to break the siege. Not one has been arrested for "breaking the siege." Even those arrested by Israel have not been charged.

This illegal thing must be BS.

However you want to try to spin it, the UN and most western nations have designated Hamas a terrorist organization, and that means aiding is a violation of international law and the laws of most western countries. Hamas serves no useful purpose for the Palestinian people either to advance their welfare or their national aspirations. It deprives them of their freedoms, denies them democracy and refuses them human rights guarantees and destroys their economy with its provocations to Israel, all for no other purpose than to hold on to power for itself. It is a cancer that eats away at their collective soul and deprives their bodies nutrition. Anyone who cares at all about the Arabs in Gaza despises Hamas, as most of the world does, and would never join a flotilla aiming to strengthen it's grip on the people of Gaza.

Hamas has done more to deny the Palestinian Arabs freedom, democracy, human rights, economic opportunity or the chance to have a state of their own than any other entity.

Use your head. Hamas' nonsense about "resistance" is a farce meant to mislead the weak minded. This is no possibility that violent means will bring about political change and there never was, but Hamas' wanton acts of violence have served to harden Israeli resolve, strengthen US support and weaken the world's view of the Palestinian Arabs as peaceful victims who needed the world's support.

By provoking the Israelis into taking extreme security measures, Hamas has destroyed Gaza's economy.

Because of its feud with Fatah, Hamas has denied the Palestinian Arabs democracy.

Because it cannot stand diversity of opinion, Hamas has denied the Gaza Arabs freedom of speech, the right to dissent or even the most basic human rights guarantees.

It has done all of this for no other reason than to hold on to power.
