Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley accused President Obama of dictatorial behavior in a floor statement Thursday, saying that his recess appointments were not the first acts he has taken to circumvent the constitutional system of checks and balances.

“President Obama’s decision to bypass the constitutional advice and consent of the Senate is not an isolated incident,” Grassley said, according to prepared remarks. “It is merely the latest escalation in a pattern of contempt for the elected representatives of the American people and the constitutional separation of powers.”

Obama appointed Richard Cordray as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau while the Senate was in recess, after the Senate indicated that they would not confirm his nomination.

Grassley accused the president of “usurping legislative powers” by overriding and working around Congress when possible. This, Grassley argues, is in violation of the Constitution.

“Having had their rights violated by a king, our Founding Fathers intentionally put the power to make laws in the branch of government that is most directly accountable to the citizens,” the Iowa senator said.

Grassley pointed to Obama’s appointment of “czars” in issue areas, whom he said tread on the role of Congress, Obama’s “unilateral pursuit of climate change” and his use of the “Race to the Top” program, which Grassley said allowed him to impose the federal government’s rules on the states.

obama is creating a web of bureaucracies headed by levels of czars who are not accountable to anyone but him. He is acting exactly like a dictator or, more to the point King.

The King handed out fifedoms to the loyal. The Earl of Health Services, Duke of Education, Dutchess of National Security. The legislature is being replaced by loyalists who are beholden only the King, they are not elected. They are unaccountable.

Obama is spoiling for a fight with the Republican House. John Hinderaker of powerlineblog says Obama is "Dismissive, arrogant and looking for fight. Give it to him."

The recess appointments, one of an individual who believes the Commerce Clause trumps the rest of the Constitution and the three individuals to the NLRB so that agency can continue its assault on American business, are just one instance. The finger wagging contest on the tarmac with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is another. A Fritz Gerlach moment, initiated by this wannabe dictator is long overdue and likely will arrive shortly. The overthrow of the Constitution and America's legislative Government are just around the corner. After all, #OWS, the future foundation for Obama's Civilian National Police Force has coalesced and is waiting for Obama's next move. These are dangerous times for our Democracy. The Bolsheviks are ready and waiting at the door of the Duma.

Insanity, isn't it? They are so blinded by what their propagandists tell them that they won't even look at factual history and compare it to the present. They see your post, ignore it as if it never happened and keep on with the Slimebeckisavage attack... How Alinsky of them.

So you don't have a problem with how Obama is behaving?

At least Bush's recess appointments were made when Congress was actually in recess. :eusa_hand:

Spoiling for a fight? He's been quite restrained, IMO, trying to come up with compromises with people that won't compromise. Since his opponents have been spoiling for a fight since DAY 1, it's kind of hypocritical for them to be complaining, just because he finally decided to take the gloves off. Sounds like the Reps are nothing but a bunch of whining bullies, that cry "FOUL" the first time they get hit back. :eusa_boohoo:

Send them all to Uz-BECKy-BECKy-stan-stan.

zOMG, he will delcare marshall law.

I know you're being sarcastic, but wait till the next Terrorist Attack on our soil or massive civil unrest. Martial Law really isn't all that farfetched. Obviously they'll call it something else but it could very well happen. They'll probably give it a warm & fuzzy name similar to the 'Patriot Act.' Maybe the 'Protect & Preserve America Act?' The sheople would probably buy something like that. They always do. Just put a nice safe patriotic label on it and it's all good. So go ahead and laugh, but Martial Law is not nearly as farfetched as you and most Americans think.

Careful what you say, you'll be getting offers of tinfoil any minute... :eusa_shhh:

I do have a problem with Obama signing any part of the Partiot Act and his signing of NDAA and his surge in Afghanistan. Although he said he would send more troops to Afghanistan during his campaign and he let some of the Patriot Act expire.
