Government take over of this Oil spill?

Republicans, are you for the government taking over this oil spill? If so, I thought that was everything you WERE against. I thought it was all about the private sector and deregulation.

I see Jindal asking the government for help again....THIS WEEK.

The government's too busy taking over other parts of the US private sector.

Who the hell would want the gubmint in charge of this?

I mean, think of all the waste and inefficiency that is the FedGov...

In charge? No F'in way...

Not only that, but they have NO expertise in this arena.

Exactly! Just what would the Federal Government do if they took over for BP?

You'll have to ask the LOONY LEFT!! they are calling for the government to SEIZE BP!!!
The BP oil well is still spewing oil into the ocean with no end in sight, so it is time for America to take over; freeze BP’s assets, escort them out of the Gulf of Mexico, and arrest the guilty parties including Cheney, regulators, and CEO’s of the companies involved. Republicans will throw a fit, but there is some precedence from one of their heroes who basically did the same thing.

In 1981, the air traffic controllers went on strike and then President Reagan fired the lot of them and hired replacements. In 1984-5 Reagan helped the Massey mining company break the union and set the stage for the explosion at the West Virginia mine that killed 29 workers. Okay, so it's not the same, exactly, but the president can still take charge to protect the security of the United States of America.

President Obama must sign an executive order taking charge of the cleanup and capping operations by hiring the best engineers and scientists in the world instead of depending on BP. They have not been honest about the amount of oil spewing out of the well at the bottom of the ocean, and their main concentration has been on recovering the oil to process and sell.

By seizing all of BP’s assets, the cleanup efforts, retraining, reimbursements to fishermen, and all costs associated with the oil spill would be paid for. The government should also freeze and eventually seize the assets of Halliburton and TransOcean for their part in the disaster. All three of the men who appeared before the Senate committee need to be arrested, and imprisoned until the Gulf Coast is returned to its normal condition before the platform burned and collapsed.

The man who made the special deal with the oil companies, and whose company, Halliburton, played a role in the disaster, Dick Cheney, should be arrested and imprisoned until restoration of the Gulf is complete. All of his assets will have to be seized just like the CEOs of BP, Halliburton and TransOcean.

It is important to take every penny from the three corporations responsible for the accident to ensure that there are sufficient funds to rehabilitate the Gulf Coast and reimburse the businesses that suffer the effects of the oil for decades.

As for the stockholders who will lose their investments, it is too bad, because that is what happens when investing in a hazardous industry. One would imagine that the obscene, record breaking profits the oil industry reports each quarter has paid the stockholders nice dividends, and hopefully the dividends were well-spent or safely invested elsewhere.

Conservatives and idiots like Dr. (Ayn-Rand) Paul and Glenn Beck complain that President Obama is acting un-American by criticizing BP, and there is little doubt that some Republicans will continue to protect the oil industry, but that is of no consequence. Even in Modesto, people are upset because the spill in Santa Barbara in 1969 is still on people’s minds.

There is never a better time to take bold action and seize BP, Halliburton, and TransOcean’s assets to pay for repairing the Gulf, and never a better time to imprison the CEOs. Their crime is inexcusable, but it is what happens when rushing to increase profits overrules safety concerns. Because besides possibly destroying the Gulf Coast for decades, they killed 11 human beings through their negligence and that is reason enough to imprison the CEOs, Cheney, and the dirty filthy regulators who failed to protect their charges

That is crazy...Would seizing BP stop the oil from flowing into the Gulf? I don't think so.
Wait until they stop it AND THEM SLAM THEM FOR DAMAGES.

I often wonder how painful it is for the right to be so hypocritical.

the right is no more nor less hypocritical than the left, or the center for that matter.

Ok, del....help me out. The "right"...yes broad brush, fought hard against Government intervention in health insurance, even though many of them already partake in MediCare. Does that NOT seem hypocritical to you? At the same time, the "right" is screaming about states' rights in AZ, yet now are blaming the Federal Government for not doing more to help stop a leaking oil well off the coast of LA. I don't understand where the line is drawn?

I thought I didn't like you....lol

I agree. We need to keep them in business so they have something to pay damages with.

Seriously, you've got to be a real wack job to want the government to seize BP. What's next, eat the rich? :cuckoo:

In what it says is a move to protect the interests of its employees, shareholders and the company, Transocean Ltd., the owner of the oil rig that sunk off the Gulf of Mexico, is asking a court to limit its liability for the accident to $27 million.

Lawmakers in the House and Senate have introduced legislation that would raise to $10 billion the maximum amount of cash oil companies would be required to pay for economic losses. The White House has also expressed support for raising the cap on damages from the current $75 million.

27 million could be awarded to one family. 27 million means nothing to them, NOTHING.
