Government spending (Wasting $)

What about all the working people who would be put out of a job? There are two sides to every cut, only a bastard would not at least look at the downside to any cut they are happening to suggest.

If your job relies on government funding and it can be handled more efficiently (risk /benefit analysis) without you the tax payer is supposed to just pay you out of kindness ?

I am merely suggesting that the "taking a chainsaw to the budget" approach might sound good to some but there are consequences to such callous action against Americans and their livelihoods. The main problem we have in such a discussion is the definition of "waste", some see any government spending apart from soldiers, cops, prisons and expensive weapons systems as waste while some of us like the stabilizing influence various services and safety nets offer. It's all part of the same thing, we can encourage order by helping people or enforce order by police and prisons, some have decided that enforcing order is the way to go, I disagree.

we have to start someplace right? why not Replace the TSA with private security people who would follow the same standards only they would not be FEDERAL and would get paid MUCH Less money..

Great, that's just what we need, a bunch of minimum wage workers - who wind up TSA screeners because they thought it would be a more exciting job than flipping burgers - keeping our skies safe - working for an entity accountable only to their own greed, rather than the People.

Less motivated and shoddily trained private security in airports, no way that could backfire, lousy example of trying to save money, not to mention that privatization has not proved to be the huge cost saver it has often been sold to the public as but there is always lower quality of service.

who said anything about their training being shoddy? there are several Private Security Firms that are easily able to handle the TSA Folks jobs.. they would be paid MORE than Minimum wage.

By all means..

Let's cut spending and raise taxes

Only way to cut into a $15 trillion debt. Sacrifice must be made by all

Cut spending first, drastically, then talk taxes. No department left untouched, everything gets whacked the same percentage.

It'll never happen.

Can't play games with $15 trillion in debt

No sacred cows, everyone makes do with less. Higher taxes and less to show for them

Are you not familiar with the poor track record any kind of privatization has? In the long run there is little cost savings as they tend to negotiate a pretty sweet contract with complicit government officials.

I will say YES to prioritizing adequate money for public safety and infrastructure

and

NO to a sufficient balance on your EBT card to get that tattoo.

No, I just pay attention. Privatization only looks attractive in the beginning, in the long run it rarely saves anything and leads to a host of other problems such as not having any control over the people who get hired to do these formerly government jobs.

so you like the idea of the new "Obumba Care" Health Care?

I do not think the budget can be cut enough to make a difference to the deficit without sowing more chaos and hardship than it is worth.

How about starting here???
- spend $2.6 million to make sure prostitutes in China drink less on the job.
- $1.44 million in federal funds estimating the size of the population and examining the “social milieu”
of male prostitutes in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
- on-tax-dollars-spent-to-study-male-prostitutes-in-vietnam
- Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties

U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) today released a new oversight report, “Wastebook 2010” that highlights some of the most egregious examples of government waste in 2010.
Dr. Coburn Releases New Oversight Report:

AND now us NUTS are not happy to send tax money to the government that
A) Took a 2,700 page bill now
B) Has 13,000 pages of rules and regulations for a law not fully implemented
C) Hiring 16,000 more IRS to collect more money

Can the Budget get cut? what about vital Government Services like the TSA and such..

Can the budget be cut? Of course. We could get rid of all spending completely if we wanted to. Fuck the military and anyone else drawing a salary. Millions more unemployed. Conservatism at its finest!

Or, we could look at the big picture. Spending levels are fine, we need more revenue. Get taxes back up to historic norms. Or slightly higher if you want to pay down the debt (I don't). But even then, we could reduce spending by getting millions more jobs and off food stamps and unemployment.

Big picture. Look at it.
