Inspectors Shut Down Girl's Lemonade Stand - CBS News

Even before her daughter had finished making the first batch of lemonade, a man walked up to buy a 50-cent cup.

"They wanted to support a little 7-year-old to earn a little extra summer loot," she said. "People know what's going on."

Even so, Julie was careful about making the lemonade, cleaning her hands with hand sanitizer, using a scoop for the bagged ice and keeping everything covered when it wasn't in use, Fife said.

After 20 minutes, a "lady with a clipboard" came over and asked for their license. When Fife explained they didn't have one, the woman told them they would need to leave or possibly face a $500 fine.

Surprised, Fife started to pack up. The people staffing the booths next to them encouraged the two to stay, telling them the inspectors had no right to kick them out of the neighborhood gathering. They also suggested that they give away the lemonade and accept donations instead and one of them made an announcement to the crowd to support the lemonade stand.

That's when business really picked up - and two inspectors came back, Fife said. Julie started crying, while her mother packed up and others confronted the inspectors. "It was a very big scene," Fife said.

Well you can guess what happened next, Big Lemonade stepped in and got in bed with bigger government and (after threat of a “lemonade revolt”) they issued an apology.

Under the new and enlightened Obama government, we are trying to promote fairness and equality.

Thus, would it be fair if we allowed that little girl to run her lemonade stand, UNLICENSED lemonade stand I might add, and not pay her fair share in taxes???? I mean lets say she collects $1 a cup. And sells 50 cups a weekend. Thats $50 X 4 weekends a month, $200. Thats about $20 a month in lost taxes, $240 a year. Now, lets say we allow 1 million little kids in America to run their own stands. Thats $240,000,000 a year they are cheating the government out of. Over the 10 year span of their childhood from 5 years old to 15, that would be $2.4 billion dollars in uncollected tax revenue the Obama administration would be cheated out of, state governments who have union pensions to pay would be cheated out of, and local governments with green projects to build would be cheated out of.

Without the brave government officials cracking down on these illegal capitalist operations, these young right wing greed mongers would not be paying their fair share of taxes now would they? I mean, take that into account, then multiply that for the bake sales and car washes they are scheming the government out of taxes for, and hey, we got a major problem. Thankfully, leftists governments are taking action to right the wrongs of these capitalist piglets.

Tax wise and legal wise Babysitters must be reported to the IRS by the Parents of the children they watch. If they do not they can not claim the child care payments for tax purposes. The old rule when I last checked was if you allow someone to watch your kids 3 or more times you must report what you paid to them with their social security numbers.

Julie Murphy managed to make $1,838.31 in her second attempt at selling lemonade - enough to bankroll a trip for her and her mother, Maria Fife.

As for Julie, Portland radio station KRSK and Les Schwab Tire Centers set her up in business for an afternoon last Friday at a tire store in suburban Milwaukie.

Julie's mom says mother and daughter appreciate "everything that everyone did."
