Gov. Jerry Brown released budget

But so far MoonBeam Brown is proving himself to be head, shoulders, chest, waist, thighs, knees and calves above the TeaTardos who merely pretend to be for spending cuts.

proposing and actually getting them cut are 2 different things....Arni proposed things too....how did that work out?....come back when Browns proposals are actually implemented....then you might have something to tout...

Fun as it is to poke one another, it doesn't solve the problem. As I said, Ohio is in pretty much the same boat -- so are several other states. All with tax rates high enough to drive away business.

If you have answers, guys, let's hear 'em.

Texas is also in the same boat

Calitics:: Texas Budget Deficit Shatters Myths About California's Deficit

Well, well, well. For years now we've been hearing that California's budget problems exist because we "overspend." Others claim it's because our taxes are so high that companies and jobs move to low-tax states. Texas is often held out by those making these claims as an example of what California should emulate - a low-tax, low-services, low-spending state that supposedly has government figured out.
Except they don't. California faces a budget deficit of about $18 billion. And how much is Texas's budget deficit?

That's right. $18 billion:

Actually Texas's budget deficit is projected at 1.5 billion, California has already over spent some 25 billion and has borrowed that, for the fourth year in a row.

Texas also does a two year budget, Texas is also suffering EPA power recently granted by Obama which includes implementing TAX and CAP, an end run around congress. So the 1.5 billion deficit is projected in Texas, the 18-25 billion projected deficit is yet to be seen.

Read the article and do not ignore words like "projected".

His budget projects the deficit at $25.4 billion over the next 18 months.
To close it, Brown called for $12.5 billion in spending cuts, including reductions in welfare, social services, health care for the poor, community colleges and a combined $1 billion cut to the University of California and California State University systems.

Brown also wants the Legislature to call a special election in June to give voters an opportunity to continue increases in the income, sales and vehicle taxes for five years. The taxes were approved two years ago next month and are due to expire this year.

The taxes, along with proposed shifts in funding, would generate $12 billion in revenue if voters agree to an extension.

Sounds like a plan everybody can hate.

Nope. It's based on the fantasy of revenues from tax increases which are going to be defeated in ballot initiatives.

and if he is not successful?....

Uhh Duuuh... Then he didn't get "enough" of what he wanted... That way when it fails he can blame it on Republicans and conservatives, he just needed more! Kinda like Obama's stimulus.

thanks for answering Wry....

We all remember when The Arnold rode into Sacramento in his white hummer to return truth, justice and the conservative way to California. Promising to fix the mess with his red pen by his after lunch cigar, the governator was crowned the messiah and even mentioned as presidential material, but for that damn Constitution.
Alas, The Arnold was smacked in the face by the reality of governance and failed to deliver. He even violated the trust of true and loyal conservatives, the guy seemed to care about people. Probably the Kennedy influence, but to the callous conservatives he committed the unforgiveable sin, he sought compromise.
Gov. Brown has offered cuts - notwithstanding the lies by callous conservatives above -across the board. Now is the time for the Republicans to demonstrate they too can compromise, and earn their pay by representing all of the people, not only the callous conservatives.

Republicans have nothing to do with tax increase initiatives that will be voted down by the public.

Revere, you are in all honesty too stupid and too biased to engage in debate. Spend you days posting on the Flame Zone thread and leave debate on substantive matters to adults.
You've dominated this thead with one liners, when will you get it that you are mostly ignored?

I look at my Co-op like a microcosm of society at large. We had a meeting that pretty much said maintenance was going up. While no one likes that..it was justified. We got hit with more taxes, the elevator had broken down and needed repair several times during the year and the boiler had to be repaired. One of the owners suggested we turn off the heat in the vacant apartments to save money. A seriously stupid idea. Another suggested firing the porter and super. Another seriously stupid idea. When it comes to money, people just don't seem to think things through.

California's budget needs to be reduced, period. California knew they were in a housing bubble, 500,000$ for homes, even in the worst places like Hemet a home went for 310k. So everyone increased spending to an artificial high. Now the state wants to maintain that spending level. So the state is proposing temporary cuts in spending and tax increases hoping the economy can grow and they can continue to spend like no other state in the nation.

At the same time they are forcing expensive Clean Energy which cannot and does not provide the energy we need, the result is we buy our power from other states which use coal plants to provide electricity to California. Clean Energy is raising the price of Meat and Vegetables across the nation. Lots of that stuff comes from California. How do you like the price of your food, has it gone up, you can thank California.

How about the price of Gas, that is a result of high gas prices in California as well. How do you like that price. The Republican Governor banned drilling off Santa Barbra at the same time the Republican governor spent 2 billion dollars on Hydrogen. Who drives a Hydrogen powered car, the Republican governor.

What about stem cell research, of course that is a decision of one man, again the Republican governor, another 2 billion spent. How is that research working for us, is health care more money or less. Do we save more illegal aliens lives in California with this research.

What about the other 2 billion the republican governor spent on after school programs for kids. Have we seen crime go down or up, are we producing greater engineers.

Our Republican Governor personally spent 6 billion dollars at the same time borrowing money to balance the budget.

All elected officials to public office seem to be able to raise taxes and fees and start pet projects that is there gift to society in which honors the public official. They put their names on bridges, schools, programs, all kinds of things.

Is there a better example why people cannot be trusted with money, with the ability to raise fees. Where is the Constitution? Why am I not protected from this tyrannical confiscation of my private property in the form of tax and fees.

The poor in California have nothing to lose, their housing is paid for, their food, they get reduced electrical rates in which the cost is shifted to us who do not qualify, they get free health care and free college.

So the poor will gladly vote for tax increases and more government, they now depend on stealing my money through government.

Here is another bit, 300,000$ for a home, seems like a deal. I am sure there are nice areas of Long Beach, not a place I wish to live. Too much air pollution. I prefer south Orange County.

Orange County, the home of the John Birch Society. Who would have guessed. I recall my first Safari to the SoCal, It was the summer of my Jr. year in HS. We went to surf the pier at Hunington Beach and were told we needed a license to do so.
Went to Hunington Cliffs, nice warm water, tiny little waves, very short rides and way too crowded.
Headed back to surf city (Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, USA) the next day. Cold water, white sharks but no license required.

No, the deficit is $18B, and the word "projected" does not mean "untrue". Even the TX State govt recognizes they are facing huge deficits. Almost every state in the union is facing a huge deficit, high taxes or low taxes. The problem is the weak economy, and has nothing to do with a states income tax rate.

The Constitution in California has a very complex taxation structure. You may want to review it.

Exodus of business from CA will only increase!!!

http://www.usmessageboard.com/3122800-post1.html

9. Most Expensive Business Locations:
California has the most expensive cities anywhere in the US.

8. Worst Performing Labor:
Fucking hippies!

7. Dreadful Legal Treatment:
44th in legal fairness to Business and Mexican Los Angles is ranked least fair and reasonable city in the country.
Any law student in CA could tell you how complex and leftist (not to mention backwards) CA law is.

6. Worst Regulatory Burden:
And this is with them shooting down the Communist CA Greenhouse Gas and zero emissions laws.
Cost and uncertainty of business regulations causes them to the the highest hassle index by a significant margin.

5. Harshest Treatment of Business:
60% of CA business have adopted freezing hiring in CA and moved to operations to other states.

4. Downright Unfriendliness to Business:
49th Unfriendly to business state (my money is on NY as most unfriendly)

2. Uncontrollable Spending:
State and City spending (even per capita) is the highest in the country

1. Consistently Ranks - WORST STATE IN NATION TO DO BUSINESS IN:
Business people nickname CA the Venezuela of the US!
Side Note: Texas is ranked #1 state to do business in!

The Texas State Comptroller states the deficit at a projected 1.5 billion dollars. The weak economy has everything to do with taxes and government. The government ruined our economy, thats all.
