SACRAMENTO, Calif. – GOP party leaders in Sacramento County took down offensive material on their official party Web site that linked Sen. Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden and encouraged torture of the Illinois senator, the Sacramento Bee reported Wednesday.

The paper said Sacramento County party chairman Criag MacGlashan took credit for and defending the site and its content, "I'm aware of the content," he said. "Some people find it offensive, others do not. I cannot comment on how people interpret things."

The site reportedly stated as fact several claims popular in chain E-mails about Obama’s patriotism and personal history that have since been verified false. One graphic also said “The only difference between Obama and Osama is BS,” and to “Waterboard Obama.

If the RNC is posting letters on their website encouraging people to commit specific acts of violence against specific political figures - shouldn't someone BE ARRESTED?

Incitement is difficult to prove. As is slander and libel. For example, you would think that someone who continuously said that "bush lied" could be sued as well. The reality is that the hoops to jump thru are too narrow.

Yes, the whole thing is weird.

Agreed

Not in this case.

I disagree. For example:

Can you prove in a court that a specific person incited a specific person via the website to harm Obama?

Can you prove in a court that a specific person intentionally was trying to generally incite anyone via the website to harm Obama?

Think like a lawyer and you will see my point. Now, a civil suit? I dunno about the hoops there. But the concept of innocent until proven guilty is a tough one to overcome if you've a competent lawyer.

What is dangerous about people who delude themselves into believing they are so-called "moderates" is they think they can make extremism go away by censoring it in a manner every bit as intolerant as those they point a finger at.

so you don't think they should've taken it down? leave it up and let everyone see how insane the GOP is? Not a bad idea actually. :D

Wrong, some so called moderates believe you have to hit them face on. If someone says to torture Obama or McCain, you don't censure them, you seek the maximum punishment you can get from the law. The current batch in DC are too inbred to do this. We need to vote them out and try and bring in new people who are owned by the system yet and then hold them accountable.
