GOP wants to give our high tech jobs to foreigners

House Republicans are planning a vote next week on immigration legislation that would expand visas for foreign science and technology students, the Associated Press is reporting, in what may be a first step toward an overhaul of the U.S. immigration system.

A prior version was voted on in September but didn’t pass.

a vote next week on immigration legislation ...

why is the 112th House trying to pass 'new' legislation after an election and by lame duck legislators ?

have they resolved the pending fiscal cliff that possibly could throw the country back into a new recession ?

some would consider resolving critical pending legislation regarding the nations health and future prospects a higher priority than pandering (already) for 2014 votes before the 113th Congress even convenes ...

You can always count on the GOP to support ANYTHING which hurts American working people.

Now, they want to ease visa restrictions to allow more foreigners to come here and take our high tech jobs. After spending decades helping to ship our lower tech jobs to China, now they want to give away our high tech jobs as well.

Oh, sure...they call it some kind of "immigration reform," but it's actually a jobs for immigrants program which Mitt Romney had in his campaign platform and the House intends to deliver it anyhow.

Lets take it issue by issue. It seems strange that the left whines about easing Visa restrictions when they advocate creating a path to citizenship for useless criminals who enter the Country illegally. Why would the left assume that Chinese workers are smarter than American workers? Maybe because they have witnessed the union based American education system up close? American kids rank almost last in math skills but they around #1 in feeling good about themselves and thanks to the gigantic federal bureaucracy their technical skills might be limited to putting a condom on a banana.

the left is so disingenuous it is outrageous. The thing that was predicted then and has come true is that the free trade agreements that Clinton got passed would cause jobs to flee the country. Now it has and you liberal liars want to put the blame any where then where it belongs, right with the Democrat party. On top of that the liberal left is all for illegals flooding the country and taking any other low tech job.

if you are a gramps you are old enough to remember Perot's prediction of a great sucking sound of jobs and it has happened just as he said.

Then we have you democrats bragging about all the elections you win, but you won't take responsibility for the mess that the democrats have created, disgusting.

If there are Americans to do the high tech jobs then they certainly should get first shot. But remember, the liberals are in control of our education system and the products they turn out a deep in debt and there isn't much demand for English majors.

Talk about disingenuous! NAFTA, CAFTA, TPP and the S&PPA were ALL negotiated by Republican administrations!

NAFTA was the one thing that William J. Clinton pushed for the hardest. Yes, negotitations were during HW Bush's administration but without Clinton it may never have gotten the 60 percent it needed to pass in the Senate. No matter who negotiated the treaty, CLINTON pushed for it and signed it.

As for CAFTA, small potatoes.

As for TPP, go to this site and see who is front and center: The United States in the Trans-Pacific Partnership | Office of the United States Trade Representative

Giant Sucking Sound Part 2? The NAFTA Of The Pacific Will Soon Allow Millions More American Jobs To Be Shipped Overseas

"Small potatoes?"

I see. So long as you can blame it all on the "left" without being called on it, why free trade agreements are an End Of The World Liberal Conspiracy. But, as soon as someone with a little knowledge comes along and correctly points out GOP complicity, their part suddenly becomes "small potatoes."

I'm an immigrant to this country. I can tell you it is an enormous pain to immigrate here.

We need talented people to come to America. Something like half of all Ph.D.s in the sciences and math in American schools were born outside the country. But the Little Americans who think we have to protect ourselves from the Big Bad Outsiders by banning talent from this country think its a good thing. Let these smart and talented people go somewhere else.

It's bizarre. It's like banning really good football players from playing on your team.

A very non-Republican friend of mine runs an IT department at a non-profit. He has a hard time attracting good people.

Not letting talented people in and not funding our own education system. Sounds like a lose-lose proposition.

You want Latin America to continue emptying their penitentiaries and dropping them off at the border and told never come back to go on forever so Democrat politicians can lie to them and buy votes with free drugs, plenty of food stamps and cell phones? Those people become America's tomorrow when you play it stupid.

Why kick intelligent people in their underpinnings when you're building stupid into America's future by killing off American unborn and replacing them with the dregs of Mexican prisons?

What are you getting out of it?

How much more must we pay into our educational system in order for it to be enough? For the product we are getting I say we are way overpaying for education.

Don't forget the liberals control the educational system. Funny they take no responsibilty for the failure. What they will do is blame Republicans for even bring up the topic.

OK, you can blame CAFTA on Bush. For those who don't know that was treaty between the US and the Dominican republic.

Now do you have any comment on how Clinton really screwed the working man?????

And don't forget the quote and the name.

No Child Left Behind was that democratic mandate in what year?

Just because republicans won't do a damn thing for education most of the time democrats 'control' it?

Instead of importing more cheap labor, how about we spend some tax dollars to re-train unemployed and under-employed American's to fill those jobs first?

The GOP says that's unjustified government spending, that it adds to the deficit, that it's a form of welfare. What do you say?

What a dumbshit you are.
Why don't you go pick some tomatoes?
How retraining does that take?

Lets go pick out Jose from the corner....what will it take to teach HIM how to do a "High Tech" job, god you are a disgrace.

The Left said the GOP needs to pander to immigrants more to win elections. So, the GOP panders to immigrants. Now the Left criticizes them for pandering. Lose-lose scenario.

Having said that, i agree with you that this is a bad idea. Quit the damn pandering and the importingg of workers.

If we need skilled tech workers they have to come from someplace. We aren't producing any.

And?

I mean, personally, I don't get the conservative obsession with destroying American jobs.

But there it is..

Gosh you guys think every person in this country is stupid.

This sort of thing has been going on since H1Bs. You guys want to mine other countries for their best and brightest. These folks are being "recruited"..they aren't coming to this country because they have no choice.

And it hurts both countries. Hurts them because they are losing people that would contribute greatly..and hurts us because it bloats the tech sector and lowers wages.

The 1%? They win.
