see, you have to change the subject because as a liberal you can't follow the conceptual arguments.

1) pre-existing conditions and terminal illnesses are very very expensive but then so are Rolls Royces. The free market loves to sell expensive stuff as long as it can charge competitive prices for it. Liberals made it illegal to charge competitive prices in health care, not cars so there is no reason to provide health care for pre existing conditions.

No insurance companies like to insure healthy people and drop sick people. Why? Because their motivation is of the wrong material - bottom line profits.

Your analogies are getting sillier. I don't get to select amongst catastophic illnesses like I do with cars.

I have actually done this. But there were so many goddammed leeches in line ahead of the person I was trying to get help for that we were told it would be two years before we could MAYBE get assistance. And that was if we got a lawyer.

One might think that hospital loses would not be that great. However, so many people are under insured. That 20% coinsurance may sound quite reasonable for a doctor's visit, but after a few stays in the hospital plus rehab, recovery centers, testing, and followup, 20% can be a huge expense for those in low income brackets, resulting in sizable loses for medical providers.
