GOP to make high gas prices a campaign issue

No, it had to do with the severe global economic crisis of the late 2000's... colloquially known as the "Great Recession." Now it has to do with the subsequent recovery.

It was all over the news. :dunno:

So you think that opening up supply has nothing to do with the price? LOL I forget, you're very young aren't you?

29. And yes that's what I'm saying, the recession caused all the markets to plunge, including oil futures. Shrub's moratorium lift had nothing to do with it.

Have you noticed that damn near every economy based attack they try against Obama is predicated on ignoring the reality of the crash and the situation Obama inherited?

predictions of record high gas prices this spring and continuing on through summer will certainly be a major sticking point in obama's bid for a second term.
record gas prices bolster gop arsenal against obama

as they should, as they are part of the cause.

What a sucker you are. The corperations are shitting in your face on this issue, and all you are doing is puckering up and kissing their ass. They control the price of gasoline, not the President. They are exporting gasoline and making huge profits off of it. And charging you ever more at the same time.

Hey stupid, and your one party comedy act.

BP paid for Rahms apartment and democrats hand walked BP through the courts to avoid environmental concerns.

You are about the dumbest here.

Should we give you a standing ovation?

Record Gas Prices Bolster GOP Arsenal Against Obama

The GOP is seeking anything which might afford traction no matter how absurd or dishonest. It's rather sad, needing to run away from the latest failure of Voodoo economics their struggle for relevancy is sadly comical.

In the past the GOP has branded itself as fiscally responsible and strong on defense. There is no evidence to prove either claim are true given the failure of recent military adventurism and the near economic collapse of our economy during the Great Recession (2007 - 2009).

All the GOP has left is cultural war - currently engaged in as a (not so) civil war among those who want to be the GOP standard bearer in November as well as ain't it awful the sky is falling rhetoric, name calling (Marxism!!!) and it's ALL OBAMA'S FAULT.

As weve seen here on this forum, a lot, a WHOLE FRIGGIN' lot of pubs don't know that the president of the United States does not control or influence the price of oil or gas so yeah, I'm sure we'll hear a lot more about how President Obama is the reason for the high gas prices.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could EDUCATE the damn rw's.

but, if we did that, there would never be anything as lame as the teebaggers.

Yabut that would be FACT and we all know there is no place in R politics for FACTS.

If Bam Bam would just say he was ramping up oil drilling and production in the US prices would drop.

If he actually did something about our declining oil production and refining capacity we would see more stable gas prices but that is not a priority for him now is it?

Complete bullshit, Skull. We are exporting gasoline. All that would happen if we ramped up domestic production of oil is that we would export even more, and deplete our limited reserves.

Gasoline: The next big U.S. export - Dec. 5, 2011

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The United States is awash in gasoline. So much so, in fact, that the country is exporting a record amount of it.

The country exported 430,000 more barrels of gasoline a day than it imported in September, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That is about twice the amount at the start of the year, and experts and industry insiders say the trend is here to stay

And if we ramped up production and exported more the price would not drop?

Do you understand that oil is a global market?

H.R. 1, the House Republican-approved spending plan for the remainder of 2011, cuts the CFTC budget by nearly one-third, which would force the agency to lay off nearly 30 percent of its staff. CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler has said that if the GOP budget cuts were implemented, “We would not be able to police…or ensure transparent markets in futures or swaps.”

And Republicans are forging ahead with these budget cuts even though they agree that oil speculation is increasing prices:

And yet, I seriously doubt they could come up with much evidence that could attribute the rise to Obama's policies.

That being said, the American people would probably buy it anyway. So, yeah, Obama should be worried.

Just as the perception worked in the opposite direction, so should it work against Obama.
His leadership is in question.

Democrats will never get to the point of questioning Obama's leadership abilities, they're simply incapable, besides, it's much easier to blame Bush or Republicans...

Yup and it won't matter whose fault the high prices are Barry will get the blame. He's the Prez.

Good new he gets the Kudos. Even if he had nothing to do with it.

Bad news he get the blame. Even if he had nothing to do with it.

The president could easily turn that around on the GOP by rightly blaming it on speculation and calling for reforms in commodities trading and then watching the republicans close ranks around their Wall Street friends showing the thing they really care about most.

Never was nor was it even at the bottom of his priorities.

It was Bush' fault in his second term. Remember, we got 24 news coverage from the media about rising gas prices, EVERYDAY. The media couldn't quit fondling themselves blaming Bush.

Are you referring to this administrations policies such as striking down of the Keystone pipeline for "political" re-election concerns, and the closing of 3 coal plants, while Federal Government investment into the Chevy Volt (which only reached ONE THIRD of it's 2011 production goals) increased? Let's see striking down further oil production while trying to force a failed green energy initiative onto the sales market, then watching Iran make more hostile threats as they further their nuclear ambitions . . . . couldn't possibly have any effect on future gas prices. :cuckoo:

Whatever they can do to force the price of fossil-fuels up they will do. They feel that is the only way can make alternative energy sources affordable. Problem is as the price of fossil-fuels goes up so will alternative sources as well.

Indeed. Like it or not? It takes one to manufacture the other.

It's almost like no one understand now, today, what Carter's policies did to the price (and availability) of gas and how far supply increased and the price dropped when he was out of office.

there was a perceived relationship with president bush and the oil industry....that's why it was talked about by the media, in my opinion....

bushabdullah_wideweb__430x268.jpg

and also, Obama has still NOT broken the record high that occurred under President Bush....

Once that record history high under President bush's presidency is broken, I think the media will be covering it, just as much....time will tell, I suppose...

No problem, really. Obama supporter and 'goombah' Georgie Soros will be able to fix that problem relatively quickly, when the time comes, by shorting a couple thousand futures contracts for WTI or Brent North Sea Crude so that everything will be cool for the Chosen One with no gasoline price angst out there, anywhere, among the unwashed masses. Mr Soros is no stranger to the futures markets, he was intimately engaged during the '90's when he led the raid on the English Pound and figuratively broke the Bank of England and again in early 2008 when he was involved in activities designed to drive the price of oil into the stratosphere in hopes of forcing the American public into electing a Democrat in the upcoming presidential election. Whats FIFTEEN BILLION DOLLARS between friends anyway, especially when Barry's "Fundamental Transformation Of America and re election for four more years are at stake?

IF he controls as much of the oil market that you seem to indicate soros does, then why has he allowed prices to get this high and hurt obama at this stage??

LOOKS like the one man, does not have as much influence on the market price as you think.....and that the Iran concerns, and maybe dropping the ethanol requirement could be fueling the speculation hikes on oil, along with the speculative dollar devaluation could be it, to me.....?

*regardless, high gas prices stink to high heaven! It's squashing any economic growth!

Can we have a show of hands please?

If you're not too embarrassed at your ignorance, all right wingers who still believe the Presient of the United States has any control over gas prices, could you please raise your hands?

OMFG - lookit all those hands!!

There's still a whole hell of a lot of idiots out there.

Gee... Who knew?

What makes you think Obama even gives a damn about the rising gas prices and how they can effect the average family's budget during an economic recession? He's got his Chevy Volt he's pushing, OVER the growing volatile security concerns surrounding the United States dependency on foreign oil in the Middle East. If he was actually concerned about gas prices and jobs he wouldn't have stopped the Keystone Pipeline and further oil drilling in the gulf. That's what you get when "playing politics" and catering to special interests becomes more important than job creation, and meeting the needs of hard working families who must work within a limited budget due to the current inability of the unemployed to obtain more higher earning careers in the job market. When class warfare, and looking to ways to create further division within the nation, becomes the more important goal to a President obtaining their OWN self interests over the needs of the American people.

And what is your point?

Average gas price was less than $2.00 when Obama took office. That's my point.

Didn't know Obama set gas prices....

He doesn't, but I believe the point is a lot of other Americans who don't follow politics as closely don't know that, either. The Prez will get the heat, though, because that's just how it is for the guy at the top when this happens.
