GOP to make high gas prices a campaign issue

And what is your point?

Average gas price was less than $2.00 when Obama took office. That's my point.

Didn't know Obama set gas prices....

Well surely he must because according to Democrats past, Bush had the power.

Riiight... How do other trade-able commodities compare today against that date?

I think perhaps it had more to do with this:

No, it had to do with the severe global economic crisis of the late 2000's... colloquially known as the "Great Recession." Now it has to do with the subsequent recovery.

It was all over the news. :dunno:

I'm not saying they won't try to use it to their advantage, just as the Repubs are doing now.

Don't be silly. Everyone knows that the American waters of the Gulf are the largest oil producing region in the world. So much so, that the moment Bush signed a piece of paper, it flooded the worldwide market of oil such that oil prices suddenly dropped 74%.

And yet domestic oil production is the highest its been since 2003, and projected to continue to increase through 2013.

Non‐OPEC Supply. EIA expects non‐OPEC crude oil and liquid fuels production to
rise by 770 thousand bbl/d in 2012 and by a further 850 thousand bbl/d in 2013. The
largest area of non‐OPEC growth will be North America, where production increases
by 350 thousand bbl/d and 260 thousand bbl/d in 2012 and 2013, respectively

29. And yes that's what I'm saying, the recession caused all the markets to plunge, including oil futures. Shrub's moratorium lift had nothing to do with it.

As weve seen here on this forum, a lot, a WHOLE FRIGGIN' lot of pubs don't know that the president of the United States does not control or influence the price of oil or gas so yeah, I'm sure we'll hear a lot more about how President Obama is the reason for the high gas prices.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could EDUCATE the damn rw's.

but, if we did that, there would never be anything as lame as the teebaggers.

The president could easily turn that around on the GOP by rightly blaming it on speculation and calling for reforms in commodities trading and then watching the republicans close ranks around their Wall Street friends showing the thing they really care about most.

Yabut that would be FACT and we all know there is no place in R politics for FACTS.

If Bam Bam would just say he was ramping up oil drilling and production in the US prices would drop.

If he actually did something about our declining oil production and refining capacity we would see more stable gas prices but that is not a priority for him now is it?

Predictions of record high gas prices this spring and continuing on through summer will certainly be a major sticking point in Obama's bid for a second term.
Record Gas Prices Bolster GOP Arsenal Against Obama

OK. Simple solution. Our fine oil corperations are at this time exporting gasoline. Simply stop all exports of petroleum products. Then they will have to sell it all here. And oversupply with drive the prices down. Of course, consequences of that action will have some unpleasant side effects, but then 'Government will have done something'.

You 'Conservatives' are so funny. First you state, loudly and continually that you want unfettered free markets. Then when you pay the price for that market, you cry that somebody should do something. Government is not setting the price for gasoline. And there is no shortage, as we are exporting gasoline. Talk to your beloved energy corps about why the prices are so high.

Complete bullshit, Skull. We are exporting gasoline. All that would happen if we ramped up domestic production of oil is that we would export even more, and deplete our limited reserves.

Gasoline: The next big U.S. export - Dec. 5, 2011

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The United States is awash in gasoline. So much so, in fact, that the country is exporting a record amount of it.

The country exported 430,000 more barrels of gasoline a day than it imported in September, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That is about twice the amount at the start of the year, and experts and industry insiders say the trend is here to stay
