GOP to make high gas prices a campaign issue

The president could easily turn that around on the GOP by rightly blaming it on speculation and calling for reforms in commodities trading and then watching the republicans close ranks around their Wall Street friends showing the thing they really care about most.

As weve seen here on this forum, a lot, a WHOLE FRIGGIN' lot of pubs don't know that the president of the United States does not control or influence the price of oil or gas so yeah, I'm sure we'll hear a lot more about how President Obama is the reason for the high gas prices.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could EDUCATE the damn rw's.

but, if we did that, there would never be anything as lame as the teebaggers.

Yabut that would be FACT and we all know there is no place in R politics for FACTS.

Blame Obama for the high gas prices ... and the ones blaming him all own stock in BP, Chevron, Exon ...

Not only that but who gets the most campaign funds from the oil companies?

Repubs need a better arena than this because if they start by trying to pin the price of gas on Obama it will bite them in ass!!

If gas does go up and it always does every summer the real threat to Obama is the economy. Once gas gets to $4 a gallon the economy starts to shudder, look at last year, and if it gets to $5 it will tank fairly quickly. Of course that is what the repubs are looking at but they can not say they hope gas prices go up because that costs jobs.

And who votes for tax subsidies to already incredibly wealthy oil companies.

Yep, the R's. Its always the R's.

But, rw's don't want to know the truth. They just want to do what they are told and that is, Hate Obama.

This really does work extremely well. Look at jobs. President Obama's policies have resulted in more than THREE MILLION JOBS. Repub policies have resulted in ZERO JOBS. And yet, ask pubs here and they'll tell you that the president has not produced jobs.

Same with the economy. GObP does nothing but obstruct. They filibuster every bill tht could help the United States. They should be brought up on charges. This isn't something the rw's don't know but they just shove their head deeper in the sand.

I don't think anything can force people to educate themselves if they don't want to. All we can do is hope that enough people DO open their minds and actually understand what they learn.

As if we never heard the left place blame for the rising gas prices under the Bush Administration on an "oil tycoon" in the White House? Interesting how comments like that have a way of coming back to bite liberals in the ass.

Predictions of record high gas prices this spring and continuing on through summer will certainly be a major sticking point in Obama's bid for a second term.
Record Gas Prices Bolster GOP Arsenal Against Obama

And yet, I seriously doubt they could come up with much evidence that could attribute the rise to Obama's policies.

That being said, the American people would probably buy it anyway. So, yeah, Obama should be worried.

Just as the perception worked in the opposite direction, so should it work against Obama.
His leadership is in question.

Democrats will never get to the point of questioning Obama's leadership abilities, they're simply incapable, besides, it's much easier to blame Bush or Republicans...

Wall Street...Yes. The very same Wall Street you guys are crowing about because Obama is causing the Dow Jones Industrial Average to climb. Wall Street...The same people who helping to fund Obama's campaign. That's right, Wall Street people are handing Obama money like they weren't going to make any more.
And BTW, Obama has had plenty of time to order up new regulations on commodity speculating, but chose to sit on his hands. Why? Because it was politically prudent for him to do so!

Populism is back and it seems the republicans absolutely suck at it. Tell the group who has more of an effect on fuel prices, the president or the big commodities traders?

Obama's new campaign slogan:

Come On! Let's give Carter the second term he never had. VOTE OBAMA

I can't take credit for that but I love it.

Awwwwww, you tried. High five!

Can we have a show of hands please?

If you're not too embarrassed at your ignorance, all right wingers who still believe the Presient of the United States has any control over gas prices, could you please raise your hands?

OMFG - lookit all those hands!!

There's still a whole hell of a lot of idiots out there.

Gee... Who knew?

July 2008, just before the recession hits, average gas price was $4.11 a gallon.

February 2012, average gas price is $3.56 a gallon.

Difference: -14%

And it is the Koch Bros who are singlehandedly responsible for creating oil derivatives that made oil speculation possible and then formed "The Energy Group" lobbying coalition to lobby for the deregulation of oil speculation which led directly to the "Enron Loophole" (thank you Phil Gramm R-Tex) and at least a 25% increase in the price of oil.

Man, it really is like Jimmeh again. Hi gas, horrible economy, Iran crisis.

If we hit A days and B days again, all hell will break loose.

In NJ we had "odd/even" rationing. Went by the last numeral on your license plate.
We had miles long lines of cars waiting for a limited supply of gas. There were instances where the maximum purchase was $1 ( about 2 gallons) of gas. The idea was to prevent tank topping. It had the opposite effect.
