So in Minnesota, it is widely conceded that the Democratic governor is on the winning side. The Governor intends making the prosperous, keep themselves alive with tax increases to keep the spending flowing! Tax increases for the rich are proposed by the rational Democrats.

The governor is not up for re-election, but the legislature is next year.

Reason prevails.

The Republicans are demanding that no more customers shop in stores, or go the parks or other resorts. No more shopping for road construction materials and equipment will ever be allowed by GOP! It's on the record now! All state offices are now closed. No state service employees will be allowed to draw pay to spend.

Moody's bond rating service knows already that Republicans are bad for business and bondholders, aka the rich.

The Christ-Hating Republican Party, USA: Is Mainly Supportive of the Old Testament at best. Their judges try to hang it in the U. S. courtrooms. The Prohibition against idolatory got Jesus crucified--and that is the part they all like the best. Jesus was Jewish, unlike the Law of Moses(?)--which is Baptist, or Mormon, or something(?)!

Tax Collector / Gospel Writer Matthew recorded the story in Matthew 25::14-30, wherein the one servant double the talents, and the second servant doubled the talents. The third servant went out and buried it: Wherein in grew, no new talents. That servant allegedly caused a foreclosure crisis--even then(?)! The Household should have had income increase of eight new talents. It only got seven instead.

The next dismissable servant: Was then left only with four talents, while the rich servant got to keep ten. . . .unless they had to give it back, or something.

Wherein the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer: Then the system clearly fails.

Bond rating service, Moody's already knows that Republicans are bad for business. Rich Republicans already know that Republicans are bad for business. That leaves Boehner, Cantor, and McConnell with the Old Fat White People, Cavorting About Naked On Other People's Yachts--Dumping Substance And Other Treasure, Into The Sea.

That won't win in Sausalito, CA: And that is even bad for Minnesota. Boehner has no votes, and needs to court the Democrats. That is now his job.

Minnesota Republicans have to pass a budget. That is now their job.

All in all, without knowing the details of the Minnesota budget I can only speculate as to which side is right. If there is still wasteful spending to cut then Republicans are right, if there is little to no spending left that can be cut then the Democrats are right. I have no qualms about taxing the rich more, if as much spending as possible is cut first.

History shows that when the spending is taken away--then even foreclosures start to happen.

GOP is taking the spending away in Minnesota--and intends it all taken away: At least $5.0 bil.

I almost hate making a fool out of you, but the Republicans in Minnesota not only passed a balanced budget, they actually increased spending over last year. The budget was full of gimmicks, delayed payments, and borrowing, but an increase in spending is not spending cuts.

RNC has its record certain, of the "Blessings Of Freedom," They like to talk about.

At the National Level, the GOP took away The Make Work Pay Refundable Tax Credit, modeled after Matthew 20: 1-16. The first ever in history, more or less equal amount National COLA was taken away by Boehner-McConnell et. al.: Of famous hate of Christian America!

Clever Obama Administration then created a less regressive Payroll Tax with the 2% payroll tax holiday.

The Republicans are fervently on record, taking paying customers away. Others overseas have also done this. Minnesota GOP has also done this.

The governor said his last offer would have raised income taxes only on those earning more than $1 million a year — an estimated 7,700 Minnesotans, or 0.3 percent of all taxpayers, according to the Revenue Department.

Republicans rejected the proposal, Dayton said, because they "prefer to protect the richest handful of Minnesotans at the expense of everyone else."

Republican leaders made their own statement, saying Dayton’s proposal for dealing with the state’s projected $5 billion deficit would cause irreparable harm to the state’s economy for generations.

...Talks may have also broken down because an earlier GOP offer asked Dayton to accept controversial policy positions the Republicans pushed for this year, including photo ID requirements at the polls and abortion restrictions. An offer sheet provided to The Minneapolis Star Tribune said the policy adoptions were in exchange for "new revenue in a compromise offer."

Chances of a Minnesota budget deal slip away - BostonHerald.com

The GOP believes that it's either their way or the highway. They have been doing the same thing in DC. I think the time for "compromise" is just about over.

This is a "careful what you ask for" situation. Both sides of the have been screaming that they hate it when their representative compromises and works with the other side. They scream and scream that they want their elected officials to stand their ground. Then when it actually happens they scream that they should have compromised.

All in all, without knowing the details of the Minnesota budget I can only speculate as to which side is right. I have no qualms about taxing the rich more, if as much spending as possible is cut first.

I can tell you the two sides worked many hours to avoid the shutdown. The governor tried to get a mediator involved but the GOP shot that idea down.
Both sides have legitimate points but only the governor has given in to some of the demands from the GOP. The GOP has not budged at all.

And until all possible cuts have been made, they shouldn't. I'm glad one of the two sides finally decided that cutting wasteful spending is more better than raising taxes, and is sticking to their guns on it.

America has been in a rut with wasteful spending for a while now. It's going to take experiencing some harsh realities to finally break this bad habit.

Like most economists, I believe that if someone is serious about eliminating government's debt, they do both, cut spending and raise revenue.

The Minnesota Republicans that were elected on the campaign promise to NOT raise taxes remember what happened to George H W "read my lips, no new taxes" Bush.

I guess they changed their minds.

"Sixty-three percent of respondents said they favor a blend of higher taxes and service reductions to tackle the state's $5 billion projected deficit. Just 27 percent said they want state leaders to balance the budget solely through cuts."

Sure, they favor it, when it's someone else who would be footing the bill.
