GOP Pollster: Republicans Have ‘Run Out Of’ White Voters

Republicans need to dramatically improve their standing with Latino voters or risk becoming a “regional party” of disaffected whites, according to a study released Wednesday by a GOP pollster.

“Republicans have run out of persuadable white voters,” Resurgent Republic pollster Whit Ayres and the conservative Hispanic Leadership Network’s Jennifer Korn concluded in a memo detailing the results of the study.

Resurgent Republic surveyed Latino voters in four states — New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, and Florida — and concluded that the GOP brand was on life support. Respondents said Republicans did not respect their community’s values and concerns by a 51-44 margin in Florida, 54-40 in New Mexico, 59-35 in Nevada, and 63-30 in Colorado. By contrast Democrats were seen as respectful by a dominant 67-28 spread in Florida, 72- 23 percent in both New Mexico and Nevada, and 76-20 in Colorado.

“If Republicans achieve 40 percent or more of Hispanics nationally, they can elect conservative Republicans to national office,” the memo authors wrote. “Settling for a quarter or less of the Hispanic vote nationally will relegate Republicans to a regional party with few national prospects.”

In past elections, Republicans were able to offset losses with minorities by running up the score with whites. But Ayres and Korn noted that Romney “won a landslide among white voters,” dominating Obama 59-39 and winning majorities of every subset, from women to Catholics to young people. Thanks to Obama’s dominant performance with Latinos, Asians, and African Americans, the president was nonetheless re-elected by a comfortable margin.

Does it bother you at all that you divide voters among racial lines?

I think you will see demographics shift in future elections. The principles of limited government are going to spread accross every group of people. Because they are good principles regardless of what color or ethnicity someone is. The Constiuttional principles our Founders established will lead all men and women to good government. Self-government.

America can only stand on content of character. It can't withstand the tribalism which the Left is successfully promoting.

The problem is tribalism is a very enticing prospect to a lot of people. Principles and character, not so much.

This is why we need to seek the aide of Heaven. I don't care what religion we are. We need to humble ourselves before God and seek His directions. If we keep His commandments, we will become men and women of character and principles and we will have the blessing of Divine Providence to aide us in our righteous endeavours.

If not, well the judgments of God may fall upon us soon, if they haven't started already. And once they pass, we will strive to rebuild once again. And perhaps He will even allow us to restore our Republic before He comes.

I would argue who has divided the country along racial lines.

The GOP has dug itself into this hole, the first shovel being hauled by Barry Goldwater in 1964 with the oppossing the Civil Rights Act. To be fair, Goldwater was standing on a priniciple of limited government. But he set the standard.

Before that, Ike got 46% of the black vote in 1956, and Nixon got 30% of it in 1960.

Instead of realizing just how badly the messed it up when Barry only got 6% of the black vote, and only won 6 states (five of them in the deepest south racist part of the country) the GOP Doubled down with Nixon's "Southern Strategy", Reagan's Welfare Queen (who never actually existed) and Bush-41's Willie Horton ads. And, yeah, when the electorate was 80-90% white, these plays to racism and white America's fear of a changing nation actually resonated with what used to be called "Reagan Democrats"... white folks who just weren't ready for social change and were willing to vote against their own economic interests based on that fear.

But after 1992, that stuff didn't fly. However, instead of fixing the mistake, the GOP just repeated it with Hispanics by embracing the Minutemen and Sheriff Joe. Other than Bush-43's serious attempts at outreach, the GOP has largely written off non-white folks in 2012, with predictable results.

Usually, when I hear a conservatard spew crap like this, they usually mean, "The ability of people with power and money to abuse those of us who don't have it". And frankly, that doesn't resonate with a country that is increasingly divided along wealth lines. I mean, you can get dumb white people to vote against their own economic interest by blowing a racial dog whistle or waiving a bible in front of them or telling them the mean old gummit wants to take their squirrel gun, but eventually, they figure out that the GOP is on the side of the wealthy, not the working folks.

The GOP has not won an honest presidential election since 1988. There's a reason for that.

Frankly, the Republicans gave minorities and women no good reason to vote for them.
