The Gop can't nominate someone to far to the right or it will lose. The American people want someone that will work towards fixing the debt and fix the divide within the population. NOT to make it deeper. Santorum is far to far right to have even the slightiest chance of winning...Newt could, but his talk of removing welfare from the old is going to lose him this election. Mitt Romney's greatest strength is within the fact that states like florida have a lot of old people that will vote against anyone that wants to kill there SSI. The republican party is more of a center right party, while about a third of it is far right wing, but not enough to win.

We don't have the power within our own party to force someone like Santorum or Newt through the process.
