GOP is losing EVERYONE

Michael Steele delivered an excellent speech earlier today to state party chairmen. The first part of his speech was very moving and should serve as a wakeup call to all the fringers who have caused the collapse of the party.

The second part, however, was the same old, same old complaints about spending and rather than offering counter-suggestions to each cherry-picked item he lambasted Obama for, he chose to use brief one-sentence criticisms which amounted to nothing more than biased analyses. Such as these, most of which are overly embellished, some of which are outright fabrications, and none of which has been cast in stone:

President Obama now wants to cap and tax every single American into paying higher utility rates. President Obama and his allies in Congress have now put their taxing eyes on soft drinks. President Obama and Democrat leaders want a brand new tax on our health care benefits and are devising a plan to give federal government bureaucrats control of our health care system. President Obama is backing a plan to take away the basic right of every American worker to cast a private ballot.

President Obama has for the first time in our history politicized the US Census process by putting political appointees in his White House in charge of it and wanting a corrupt, fraudulent organization to run it. President Obama and his far left allies are flirting with an attempt to squelch the basic freedom of speech of our nation's airwaves. President Obama's Attorney General is trying to use Mexican drug gang wars as a reason to advocate a new gun ban in America.

GOP Losses Span Nearly All Demographic Groups

The decline in Republican Party affiliation among Americans in recent years is well documented, but a Gallup analysis now shows that this movement away from the GOP has occurred among nearly every major demographic subgroup. Since the first year of George W. Bush's presidency in 2001, the Republican Party has maintained its support only among frequent churchgoers, with conservatives and senior citizens showing minimal decline.

Change or die, GOP.

Umm--The GOP saw these kind of polls once before. It was during the Carter administration. What happened after 4 years--RONALD REAGAN was elected to POTUS in a 49 STATE landslide.

In New Jersy & New York the GOP is actually GAINING ground. It appears the constituents of these states are sick & tired of paying high taxes--while their deficit is growing.

But you're right the GOP does need to change. They need to get back to fiscal conservatism & less government. Republican politicians need to get back to their base--the "big" tent that they deserted several years ago.

Republicans need a platform they live to, They had the values and morals as a platform but look horrible when their own members of Congress can not live up to the platform. We need to push for better budgets and get Government under control.

too bad we dont have a viable 3rd party

Watching the destruction of the GOP has been fun!

They will come back in eight years.

On the bright side, the GOP is still holding its own among evangelical, elderly church-goers. :clap2:

you do realize virtually the same things were said about the libs in 2004...
No, because the "libs" or the Dems, actually, never lost their base of support.

Even if they did it has been my fondest hope to watch the GOP swirl down the toilet ever since they had the audacity to proclaim me un-American for having a very American opinion.

In the long run the destruction of the GOP will allow them to rebuild as a rational party and that can only be a good thing.

you mean just like people are saying about rush and his opinion? come on ravi, both sides have flung the dirt...you act as if the entire GOP party called you unamerican...you know that is meadowmuffins, you just explained to me earlier how you don't make those kind of comments, but it sure looks like that now....

i remember air america and other dems going around saying that had to energize their base as they were losing their base, hence why they kept losing elections. then the party went out and galvanized the base and reached out.

Man, for somebody who claims to be a socially "liberal" independent, you sure do seem to spend 99.99999999999% of your time defending the GOP, or running smoke screens for them.

Hey, Mr. I'm a Socially Liberal Independent - who's the last Democrat you voted for president? I know you voted for Bush twice. But I assume if you're independent, you've been splitting your votes, right?

On the other hand One of the biggest Demographics in the country is elderly curch goers and you've gotta start somewhere.

For a socially liberal independent, I can think of no better candidate than Bush or McCain. A vote for Gore, Kerry, or Obama would be more for someone who is a socially liberal liberal, or in other words, a democrat.

Youd be wrong in fact the Libertarians run exactly the sort of platform you just named year after year they variably get about 5% of the vote. Why? Near as I can tell because a socially liberal fiscally conservative platform represents about 5% of voters. The problem moderates have is that they are all over the damn ball park depending almost entirely on which set of issues you trot out before them. Who wins the midterms is going to depend almost entirely on where the economy is in the months leading up to the election.(Aug. -Sept.)

I'd have to agree with that assessment. I fit right in there too. When push comes to shove however everyone has to make a decision. What is more important to the Independent voter or the moderates of each party. Usually it comes to the economy and taxes, and for the most part, the majority seem to favor a more fiscally responsible attitude. The only reason the Republicans lost recently is because they abandoned that responsiblitiy.

Ya they are just dying ....to be the base of the GOP.

Better start passing out viagra at the rest home.

Oh ya...the old spinsters eggs a little dusty and if they do concieve it will kill the old hag...plus one..minus one.

:lol::lol::lol:

why do you even bother claiming you're a socially liberal "independent".

Is the fact that you always vote GOP, and defended george bush for eight years really so embarrassing to you, that you have to pretend to not be one of the biggest GOP supporters here?

Yet by supporting Obama you actually are supporting more of the same policies Bush gave us. And the tax base is going south faster then a blue whale hunting krill.
