GOP House Speaker: 'Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow'

Actually, there are quite a few translations that call for his death!!!

Psalm 109:8 CEV - Cut his life short and let someone else have h - Bible Online

Psalms 109:8 - The Message® (MSG)
8 Give him a short life, and give his job to somebody else.

Psalms 109:8 - New Century Version® (NCV)
8 Let his life be cut short, and let another man replace him as leader.

Psalms 109:8 - Good News Translation (GNT)
8 May his life soon be ended; may someone else take his job!

Psalms 109:8 - Good News Translation Catholic Edition (GNTCE)
8 May his life soon be ended; may someone else take his job!

Psalms 109:8 - Contemporary English Version (CEV)
8 Cut his life short and let someone else have his job.

That's what, 5.. compared to the 15 or so from my link.

point is it is not universally recognized as meaning DEATH, and that is the point.

Simple. The President's office isn't held for life. So death is not the only way that his days may be few in office.
No, the point is that when you put the verse in simple English it means death!

For example your link gives this description of the Good News Bible:
Good News Bible (Today's English Version) (TEV), completed in 1976, was translated by Robert G. Bratcher with six other scholars. This very free, though very accurate, translation avoids the use of traditional biblical vocabulary and communicates especially well with youth and the unchurched. Also published by the American Bible Society.

If Synthia were smart, he would ask a mod to close this thread... It might save him further fail...

But we all know Synthia isn't the smartest 0bama Fluffer on USMB....

Why?

As you read above the verse goes like this....

8 Let his life be cut short,
and let another man replace him as leader.

If using that verse isn't calling for his death while if office then you need to read up on the Bible.

And when it is put IN context it's still saying the same thing.....

The vast majority of Bible translations go with "days" and not "life"...

Context is only one verse... There is no context to the surrounding verses as they are not the "bumper sticker"...

Keep the fail coming...lol

you're over-analyzing it. The life being referred to, when using this single solitary passage (109:8) is ones 'political' or employment life.

Where was your outrage when Obama called conservatives 'the enemy', or when he said "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun"? Those were obvious and intended violent comments, unlike the reference to Psalms 109:8.

Two ministers on Thursday delivered more than 30000 petition signatures calling for his resignation, and he has apologized.

But if you all want to pretend he didn't mean what he said in his email, go right ahead.

It won't be the last time that wingnuts deny reality.

Yep. One more yap-yap 'Conservative' gets his balls kicked right up under his armpits. Well deserved, also.

'Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow:' Republican Speaker's controversial email targets President

Just a week after a Republican House speaker issued an apology to First Lady Michelle Obama for referring to her as 'Mrs. YoMama' and resembling her to the Grinch, another email is circulating connecting the president to a Biblical passage that prays for harm to his family

The most recent email by Kansas' Mike O'Neal quotes a Bible verse for President Barack Obama that points readers to a scripture in the Bible titled 'a cry for vengeance.'
Psalm 109, referred to in the email to fellow lawmakers, prays that 'his days be few ... his wife be widowed and his children be fatherless.'

According to the Lawrence Journal-World who read the email sent by Speaker O’Neal, the prayer was forwarded with his own attached message reading:

'At last — I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president! Look it up — it is word for word! Let us all bow our heads and pray. Brothers and Sisters, can I get an AMEN? AMEN!!!!!!'

LJW reports that both recent emails were sent by the house speaker through his private email address.

More lies and propaganda from the leftists...

Intellectual dishonesty is certainly a problem.

I've always wondered why people are knowingly dishonest.

Funny (not really), how a libtard like you cherry picks that particular translation...

Psalm 109:8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.

funnier still that I don't see that translation in any listing of biblical passages.

EDIT:

Found your translation...

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

It was posted earlier in THIS thread, moron.

Here's the KJV:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Now PLEASE attempt to explain how that does not mean that the writer did not want the person to die in office.

I'll be waiting. :eusa_whistle:

Do you guys ever give someone the benefit of the doubt?

Yes, they do... but only if that person is a liberal. Anyone on the right, meh, not so much. If it wasn't for double standards, the left would have no standards at all.

And once again the conservative echo chamber keeps up the pretense.

Perhaps putting the whole thing in context might be a good idea:

Why? The reference is to a single verse....

Now Now, Dr. I've already explained that libtards do not allow the quoting of a single passage of the Bible. Regardless of which passage is actually quoted or referred to, it is OBVIOUS to libtards the entire verse was meant to apply. Haven't you been paying attention?

Real men will admit when they have made a mistake.

Ed has effectively ended this thread with these translations from different Bible publishers.

There is now no doubt as to the meaning of "may his days be numbered".

And the wingnuts have failed again.

I should have known this was nothing but a lie.

funny (not really) how the libtard usual sources all say that the email referenced Psalms 109, but the more moderate sources all say that the email referenced Psalms 109:8.

There's a difference, libtards.
The Daily Mail is a very very CON$ervative British rag.

And biblical scholars interpret verse 8 as a death wish.

Psalm 109 Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible

2. That, being condemned, he should be executed as a most notorious malefactor. (1.) That he should lose his life, and the number of his months be cut off in the midst, by the sword of justice: Let his days be few, or shortened, as a condemned criminal has but a few days to live (v. 8); such bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days.
