Perhaps the Republican Party is waking up to the fact that the selective demonizing and strident tone set by such celebrities as Limbaugh and other political pundits does more harm then good to the party?

...A growing chorus of GOP lawmakers and conservative strategists are voicing concern over the strident rhetoric some prominent Republicans have used to describe Sotomayor, and some are denouncing right-wing groups for swiftly launching negative advertisements against her.

........."These things just taint the debate because it causes (people) to become callous toward our message. It becomes a 'cry wolf' situation," said Manuel Miranda, chairman of the Third Branch Conference, a conservative group, and a former senior Senate GOP aide. "They're just out to bash the nominee. This isn't about bashing the nominee; it's about engaging on issues."

haha....this is another example that blows the left wing talking points out of the water....e.g., the republicans all stick together and are not like the allegedly independant thinkers in the dem party

please tell your writers to cross this point off and come up with some other inane talking point for you to memorize and blather

There may be some moderate republicans that are afraid to criticize Sotomayor, but all the true conservatives that I know are not.

Sotomayor is a first class bigot and has no place on the Supreme Court.

Her statements like:

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life. "

Is a racist statment, it would be racist if a white male stated " I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion that a latina female who hasn't lived that life".

The next two statements she made proves that she will not be a fair and just interpreter of the constitution but will be biased in her decisions.

"Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging."

"Personal experiences affect the facts that judges choose to see,"

A Supreme Court Justice's role is to interpret the laws as they are written and to adhere to the rule of law and set aside their personal feelings and preferences. She has clearly demonstrated she will use her personal experiences in her decisions. This cannot be allowed.

The wise Latina woman is not racist, it is the reality of what is wrong with her though. The law is not the experiences of the judge, the law is what we as a people, through constitutional means, make together. It is a contract between the people. She is saying that her prejudices are more important than what we as a people have decided should be the rules. Her prejudices are more valuable because they have been forged in a hotter furnace. But that is not democracy, where we chose our rulers based on the their promising to ignore our wishes for their own desires for revenge

She's not a racist? Are you aware that she is a member in good standing with La Raza (The Race)? La Raza's mission statement as posted on it's official website is "Re-Commit, Re-Direct, Re-Organize and Re-Claim our past Chicano activism. ... We will seek group ascendancy and solidarity among persons of Mexican American ancestry in this century."

Sotomayor is also a former board member of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. Now known as LatinoJustice PRLDEF, this organization has: fought for bilingual education in public schools; sued to force the state of New York to grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens; opposed allowing employers to require English be spoken at the workplace; and filed a lawsuit to allow Mexican and Central American day laborers to seek employment in public.

Not a racist? If she's not a racist then she damn sure plays the part well.

You think questions about a pubic hair on a can of Coke is appropriate and not negative?

Give it up, dude. You're doomed to be a hypocrite on this one.

Where am I being a hypocrite?

Because you come in here and flap your lips about some high standard for scrutinizing SCOTUS appointees. It's a one way street for liberals, and it's bullshit.

I strongly suggest you sew your flapper shut to reduce uncontrollable hot air emissions and work on your reading comprehension.

I merely posted an article that pointed out the GoP is no longer tolerant of the extremist rhetoric coming from some of it's factions.

There's nothing about there being a "one way street" nor any statement that liberals don't do it either.

I gather you are a supporter of this sort of personal demonizing over a careful and critical inspection of her judicial record?

Oh really?

According to to a profile compiled by the American Bar Association she was a "member of...the National Council of La Raza" at least as recently as 2000. That's 9 years ago.

As far as La Raza is concerned how is supporting a particular heritage "racist"? Where I live we have a strong ethnic Italian-American community that supports it's ethnic heritage in a variety of public ways. Oops...guess they are racists.

What the hell kind of definition do you use for racist? None of the above make her a racist. All of these gratuitous accusations of "racist" distort the meaning of what racism really is. Every time someone pulls the race card over every little "disrespect" or flings the label of "racist" on any attempt to support ethnic identities or values - they demean those who've really suffered under racist actions - whether black, white, asian, native, latino.

Racism: The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others or a particular race is evil, inferior etc.

La Raza advocates unbridled rights for illegal alients.

Politics is nasty business. SCOTUS nominations and hearings are an extension of politics.

It's "harm *THAN* good," not "harm *THEN* good. Maybe a summer class in English would do you some good, since you obviously failed it in school.

Course you could be a drop out, I don't know... you think like one.

fits your definition of racism perfectly....her race, accounts for differences in ability that should give her superior decision making skills over whites....

thanks for clearing that up for us

According to Janet Murguía (President and CEO od La raza) as recent as today, Sotomayer is still an active member of La Raza.

Let's see La Raza means "The Race", so the organization is declaring itself a race. SInce they decalre themselves as such and openly advocate for thier raza, that makes them racist. IMO

Thanks for the definition and she fits it to a tee. She believes she, being a latina woman, is a better person to judge than a white male counterpart. In other words she believes she is superior than a white male. That in itself is racism, by your own definition.

Yeah, it does. Amnesty, too. Same difference.

McCain and Bush advocated amnesty. Reagan granted amnesty. Where did it get them?
