Hell.. I support getting the government out of marriage all together..... only recognize family units for the sake of inheritance, power of attorney in case of emergency and medical decisions, taxation, and things that are actually government related.... No forced acceptance or bullshit like that.... have the churches and beliefs dictate whether you think someone is married or not... people have the right to choose whether they accept someone else's choice or not...

So, why are the Republicans wasting their time and our money on this sort of political BS?

Because lefty wants to impose his morality on others in the private sector via the enforcement of a whole new category or regime of civil rights--against private property rights and free association.

Some us live in the real world. Some of us understand how the real world works. Some of us know that Lefty's trash about freedom and tolerance for what it is, the stuff of more government and social engineering.

The most important legal concern is children and who's responsible for them in the case of divorce. I don't think that's something we want to leave purely to a contract basis.
 
Keep guessing, clearly you find that much easier than thinking. Posting a red herring as you did suggests several things: you're intolerant and oppose equal rights for all Americans which makes you a bigot, and, you're incapable of offering a reasoned argument in defense of the GOP's intolerance. To characterize all Democrats (which you seem unable to understand the difference between a Democrat and a democrat) as holding the same opinions is absurd.

Fact is Obama doesn't want gays to be able to get married, I do want them to have that right, I'm not sure how you spun that into me being the bigot in this instance when I'm the one pushing for equal rights and your hero is standing in the way of them.

Mea Culpa if I'm wrong. Obama is too political to draw a line in the sand. I don't know what he believes since most of what he does/says has become nuanced. His propensity to always seek compromise is annoying, particularly because the right wing hopes he fails and wouldn't agree with him if standing in a downpour he said it was raining.

Injecting Obama into the thread distracted from the real issue, the policy of the GOP to be intolerant - to embrace bogotry. Forgive me for concluding your post was meant to provide cover for what I consider the GOP's total disregard of ethos upon which our nation was founded, to wit:

The GOP's rejection of the principles upon which are nation declared its independence is reprehensible.

You're claiming that the government's approbation of the family of nature, the first principle of private property, a central tenet of the Lockean political philosophy of classical liberalism to which the Founders, including the author of the Declaration of Independence, almost universally embraced . . . with tyranny?

Though I'd just as soon the government got out of the marriage business altogether, being a true libertarian in the classical sense and not a collectivist/socialist libertarian of post-modern mindlessness, the historic practice is based on the realities of biological reproduction, the protection of the nation‘s progeny, including future homosexuals.

As for the right of people to be bigots or the like, that’s not at issue – no one ever said one doesn’t have the right. Now, they don’t have the right to try to codify that bigotry, authorizing a given jurisdiction to violate the rights of a particular class of persons.
But you might want to ask your DEMs why they are wasting time and money and efforts in the legal process trying to legalize gay marriage political BS too.
The issue isn’t whether gay marriage is ‘legal,’ but that states violate the 14th Amendment by excluding a particular class of persons from accessing state laws allowed everyone else.

And defending an American’s civil rights is never a waste of time or money.

DOMA is an example of such a violation:
The Defense of Marriage Act, signed by President Bill Clinton, denies marital benefits including joint tax filing, Social Security survivor payments and immigration sponsorship to same-sex couples who were legally married in their state or a foreign country. It also allows states to withhold recognition of same-sex marriages performed elsewhere.

Withholding marital benefits from a same sex couple simply because the couple is gay is un-Constitutional; the state has not established a compelling interest in preempting same sex couples’ right to Equal Protection per the 14th Amendment.

It doesn't matter what the Gop does or does not support, marriage is not up to the Federal Government to dictate. It is a states issue. Marriage is not covered under the United States Constitution in any shape or form, and anything not in the constitution is left up to the states to dictate. If you do not like the marriage laws in your state feel free to move to another state or to elect a representative that will vote in the fashion that you believe they should.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

A choice does not make someone a 'class'.. you idiot

A choice is not a race or a physical handicap or the like

Equal protection.. get the government out of the marriage business, where it has no place being.. and let people accept or not accept all on their own

BOTH are... 2 parents.. each is responsible equally... if neglect or impropriety is brought out in court, custody can be adjusted appropriately.. but each is still responsible for equally supporting for that child's needs... simple
