Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult

Lofgren was no Republican, he was a fifth columnist staffer, and when he left to retire he finally came clean. Why do I know that? He shows that he understands virtually nothing about Republican/conservative philosophy, and why they take the positions they take, even though they suffer this kind of diatribe not only from liberal shills like him but from the popular media the entertainment industry, and academia. Being a liberal is the most gutless decision one can make; they risk nothing.

Here's a version from the right, by a conservative comedian. At least he doesn't claim to ever have been a liberal Democrat:

How Modern Liberals Think!

Gotta tell you, Mustang...as a conservative...what gets really tired is the constant need for liberals to declare themselves intellectually superior to the opposition. Quite frankly? I haven't seen ANYTHING over the past two and a half years from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party that resembles competence let alone superior intellect. If you guys want to actually argue a position or a point of view then feel free to do so but how about you refrain from claiming stupidity on our part and brilliance on yours?

Republican conservatives are calling for fiscal sanity. That isn't something to be compromised on. Barack Obama is about to go on stage and ask for another half a trillion in stimulus spending at a time when the credit rating agencies are telling us we need to get our deficit in order or we will be downgraded yet again. Obama knows that the Republicans will not pass the stimulus he's proposing. Why would they? It didn't work before and it won't work this time.

So he's deliberately putting forth proposals that he KNOWS Republicans will refuse to pass so that he can use that as something to run against in 2012 and yet you talk about Republicans not making "an honest effort to solve our critical problems"? Who's the gullible one here?

So someone no one knows writes an article parrotting Democrat talking points while ignoring Democrats doing far worse somehow is an objective look at the GOP?

Somehow calling political opponents lunatics means they are actually lunatics.

One of these days you guys are going to have to realize that name calling really isn't effective and doesnt make what you call them true.

LOL!

Just because YOU don't know Mike Lofgren doesn't mean that nobody knows him. You see, there are MANY people who work behind the scenes who never stand in front of a camera.

Republicans are calling for fiscal sanity, yet they turn down a deal to make major cuts in spending over their objection to not raise marginal tax rates on the uber wealthy? That dog don't hunt!

Let's not confuse the debt problem with the need to prime the pump of the economy. Conservatives seem to think it makes sense to conflate the two issues. Since America has an infrastructure that is undeniably ageing, it only makes sense to spend money to get the infrastructure updated, which will also put people to work and get much needed money circulating within the economy, which also just so happens to send money back to Fed and State treasuries in the form of income taxes and sales taxes. But Republicans just want to sit on their hands. They're content to "fiddle around while Rome burns" because they think a worse economy will win them back the WH. They might as well collectively hold up their middle fingers to America.

Anyone who voted for rainbows and unicorns back in 2008, and will do so again in 2012.

Whenever the fact the republican party operates only for the rich is mentioned, the counter argument is the rich create jobs. I happen to know a fair amount of well to do, to very rich people, and while they may have a business, the idea that their intent is job creation is off the mark. Their intent and desire is profit, money, and if they have to off shore, or move South, or even move the entire operation overseas they care not for job creation. They care for money, and Americans support their efforts by buying products from US companies that use cheap foreign labor for more profit. To keep the republican party in power they must modify this reality, and they do a great job of fooling many Americans, so it was a pleasure to read a republican speak the truth.

"...The GOP cares solely and exclusively about its rich contributors. The party has built a whole catechism on the protection and further enrichment of America's plutocracy. Their caterwauling about deficit and debt is so much eyewash to con the public. Whatever else President Obama has accomplished (and many of his purported accomplishments are highly suspect), his $4-trillion deficit reduction package did perform the useful service of smoking out Republican hypocrisy. The GOP refused, because it could not abide so much as a one-tenth of one percent increase on the tax rates of the Walton family or the Koch brothers, much less a repeal of the carried interest rule that permits billionaire hedge fund managers to pay income tax at a lower effective rate than cops or nurses. Republicans finally settled on a deal that had far less deficit reduction - and even less spending reduction! - than Obama's offer, because of their iron resolution to protect at all costs our society's overclass." Charities have horrendous overhead and run out in hard times. How bout a hand up instead of making people charity cases. Conservatives protect high college costs, crap jobs and schools, bloated greedy rich and corporations. Fundamentalist are simply misled by talk of family values pubs never deliver on...

"the credit rating agencies are telling us we need to get our deficit in order or we will be downgraded yet again.

BS. They said our congress was disfunctional and ruining confidence. This means "no compromise un-american Republicans" (Time).

Maybe, but that's all they've got.

"hold a man up". I'll admit, that did make me laugh. Where are you performing next clown?

That's the kind of compelling argument we've come to expect from sleazy dipsticks like you.

Liberals have never proposed giving their own money to the homeless, have they?

Good point. Liberals have never voluntary given to charity.

That's just really sad.

Ain't it just? These people have to continually lie to themselves just to get through the day.

If I give a homeless man a dollar, I'm a Liberal. If I make him dance for it, I'm a job-creator."
Check the stats: Conservatives are far FAR more likely to give to charities and GIVE more to charities than liberals. The organization around the world that give the most to poor people are conservative religion based organizations!

Not sure what you quoted and your response have to do with each other.

What don't You Understand. What he quoted insinuates that Conservatives (Job Creators) will only give money to a homeless man if he works for it.

When the Stats are very clear that Conservatives give far more money to Charity than Liberals.

Vastly more actually.

I knew that before the Senate minority Leader and the head of the Senate Republican campaign arm did this:

McConnell's Wall Street meeting prompts criticism from Democrats
Since the news surfaced that McConnell and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) met with financial chiefs in New York this month, on the eve of the Senate debate on a regulatory reform bill, Democrats have suggested Republicans are organizing against the legislation to curry favor and campaign donations from Wall Street, as Cornyn is the head of the Senate Republican campaign arm.

Obviously, everyone knows that cons give way more to charity. And liberals receive more from charity and also there are more libs in jail and on deathrow, oh and that job creators are conservatives while unemployed are liberal, etc.. everyone knows these things.
