Medicaid Expansion Transformed a Community -Now the Bill Is Coming Due

This Democrat sitting on the bed, eats to much, so he is on Medicaid:

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.—The Republican Party’s revamp of the U.S. health-care system is heading toward a showdown over Medicaid.

This region, a patch of red in a largely blue state, saw more changes than most from the 2010 Affordable Care Act’s expansion of the health-insurance program for low-income people. Its uninsured rate fell sharply. Its sole hospital nearly tripled its Medicaid revenue, helping finance an expansion. ACA funds fueled health-care hiring and provided work for contractors.

At the same time, the cost to Oregon proved hard to handle. New Medicaid responsibilities that begin this year under the ACA, also known as Obamacare, will make up about 17% of Oregon’s $1.6 billion shortfall in its coming biennial budget.

Last week , the House passed its American Health Care Act, which would roll back federal financing for expansion and introduce limits on federal Medicaid funding for states.

Those pushing for repeal argue the ACA’s expansion of Medicaid comes at an unsustainable cost, expanding the safety net well beyond the most vulnerable citizens and squeezing state and federal spending for other critical services.

Klamath Falls’s Republican congressman, Greg Walden, led one of the committees handling the GOP proposal. Medicaid expansion to nondisabled adults, he says, is “not sustainable” for state or federal budgets.

The ACA flooded Medicaid-expansion states with more than $79 billion in federal funds through September 2015.

Under the ACA, the federal government covered the cost in the first years of expanding Medicaid in states that accepted the help. Starting in 2017, states must pay 5% of these extra Medicaid costs and 10% by 2020. In states that expanded Medicaid, the median growth in state Medicaid spending is expected to be 5.9% in fiscal 2017, compared with 4% in nonexpansion states, because of the new costs, according to results of a 50-state survey of Medicaid directors by Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

Oh, it's cryin' time again, you're gonna leave me
I can see that far away look in your eyes
I can tell by the way you hold me darlin' Oooh
That it won't be long before it's cryin' time
Now they say that absence makes the heart grow fonder (fonder)
And that tears are only rain to make love grow
Well my love for you could never grow no stronger (stronger)
If I lived to be a hundred years old
Oh, it's cryin' time again, you're gonna leave me
I can see that far away look in your eyes
I can tell by the way you hold me darlin'. Yeah now
That it won't be long before it's cryin' time
Now you say you've found someone that you love better (better)
That's the way it's happened every time before
And as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow ('morrow)
Cryin' time will start when you walk out the door
Oh, it's cryin' time again, you're gonna leave me
I can see that far away look in your eyes
I can tell by the way you hold me darlin'. Alright now
That it won't be long before it's cryin' time

Any word on when I will see my $2500 reduction in premiums?

Will it be retroactive?

What about the premium increases?

Am I a sucker?

.......when Kasich was questioned about Medicaid expansion at a California conference sponsored by the Koch brothers, AFP’s benefactors, he replied, “When I get to the pearly gates, I’m going to have an answer for what I’ve done for the poor.” (leaving us the bill)

According to Watchdog’s Jason Hart, Ohio’s Medicaid enrollment numbers under Obamacare now exceed 600,000 and have cost taxpayers $4.4 billion. (is there any other way?)

“That money doesn’t come from an endless vault of money in Washington. It is borrowed from bankers in China and children in Cleveland and Columbus,” Perry added.

(now the bills start to come due, as predicted. that said. I don't have any answers. just complaints and point out the obvious. I know, some like Kasuck....I will STHU now)

No the elites and those who make over 200 and 250 grand a year pay for it. Its just too bad the elites want a tax cut.

And they'll probably get it. Have you ever noticed that, despite things like minimum wage laws and progressive income taxes, the poor stay poor and the rich pay very little in taxes? Have you noticed how the rich and powerful twist the laws in their favor regardless of the intent? Do you think this will change by passing more laws?

This is what I don't get about the whole socialist perspective. The premise seems to be that putting government in control of our wealth will redistribute more of it to the poor. But the same ambitious people who so aggressively seek wealth as a means of power in a free market, will still be ambitious in a state run economy, and they'll still be seeking power. Socialism merely replaces economic power with political power.

That is the beauty of the ACA, people do not get free healthcare. They need to do something about insurance costs, not the ACA. When the Ceo's of major insurance companies make millions a year something is wrong.

also the working real poor those on expanded Medicaid in some states are on it because if they make under 22 grand they are not allowed to be on the ACA.

So yes I do believe in taking from the elites and giving to the working poor. Median income in the US is about 55 grand and that has not changed much since the 80's.

Oh boy, some aren't going to be happy with the senate, they want to give the poor and older more tax credits than the house. But no one is going to be happy anyway with 2018 anyway. So who cares?

To the ones that believe their premiums were going to be reduced by 2500, I heard since you believed it and was lied to the IRS is now figuring years back and going to send you what your savings should have been to help you pay the 50% increase in 2018.

Or you can all just demand Medicare for all.

Only if I can get the cheese and peanut butter.

Medicare isn't welfare, I loved it everyday I've been on it and I am sitting at work right now.

I'm glad you're getting something out of it. ;)

Seriously though, should we do the same thing with food? It's even more important than health care. We could have a national food insurance plan, that everyone is required to join, where you pay a monthly premium and the government supplies you with all the food you need*.

* - This would also be a great leverage point to deal with obesity!

Are you confusing Medicare with Medicaid? Never been on Medicaid and from the sounds of it around my area very few docs will take. Although Medicare is somewhat socialistic I paid into it many many years.

You food insurance may put a stop to obesity, but there would always be a black market for chips and cookies and hopefully good steaks.

LOL. Have you ever seen the fine print of each company's essential plan? Most of the country pays expensive premiums so the rest can sit on the couch and get free healthcare without having a job.

The elderly should be paying more. It's ass backwards that the young (those who aren't at the height of their careers) pay outrageous premiums and have high deductibles to support those who wrecked the system and mooch off of everyone else in society.

Many millennials make just as much or less than what a senior citizen gets from social security alone, yet has to pay out the ass for insurance while the elderly person gets free or next to free health insurance.
