These companies are listed as the top contributers to President Obama's 2008 campaign.

But this money didn't actually come from the companies themselves. People who work at those companies held fundraisers, or gave private donations and then bundled the money together and listed the company they work at as the "contributor".

It would be as if all the people in my neighborhood gave fundraisers, put the money in a pot, sent it to Obama's campaign fund and said, "This money is from Chicago".

It's interesting, Oil and Gas appeared at number 11 for top contributors to John McCain, but didn't even make Obama's list.

Republicans are making a "big deal" about Obama's contributions from BP. All 71 thousand. Actually, the money came from the employees. And when you look at their total contributions:

"Fifty-seven percent of BP's contributions went to Republicans, while 43 percent went to Democrats."

Obama was top recipient of BP-related dollars in 2008 - CNN.com

Rather a "mixed message", wouldn't you say?

Since the money came from the "employees" and NOT the company itself, do Republicans understand why those companies would have very little influence?

Not anymore. Not after the Republican/Conservative Supreme Court Decision making companies "citizens".

Who would companies, who are in search of cheap labor and deregulation, prefer to fund? Do the math.

Funny how many hoity-toity law firms are on there. So basically associates are pulling all-nighter doc reviews so the half-blood prince can be president. Also pretty much shows you what liberal ***** lawyers are.

I suspect it was the secretaries, the mail room employees, maintenance, people who worked in the lunch room, telephone operators.

But talk about lawyers, nearly all of John McCain's were from law firms or firms with lots o lawyers.

And considering what Republicans think about the middle class, we all know it wasn't the lunch room employees sending McCain money, in less, of course, they were white.

Put all of that unmarked money in brown paper Sachs and leave it on the White House steps before noon tomorrow. If not, there's going to be continued investigations down in the halls of Congress.

Now THAT'S funny!

McCain does seem to have about the same number of law firms.

Lawyers are still a pretty left-wing profession, though, trust me.

We have the best government money can buy.
Sucks doesn't it?

I think the over the top rhetoric of the right wing has poisoned the well.

We have the best government in the world. It's made up of our neighbors we vote for and send to Washington. We have a president that is the ultimate Horatio Alger's story.

Sure, there are a lot of people who are in it for the money or they become corrupted. But for every lawyer, there is a former Marine or a successful businessman who is there because they really believe in what they are doing.

The whole right wing lie that government can't do anything has been so damaging. Look at the mine disaster. Regulations removed and replaced with "Voluntary Compliance". Look at the deregulation of Wall Street and the collapsed world economy. If government was gone, our entire country would have been completely raped a long time ago. We would have zero resources, dirty air, dirty water, old people living in the street.

Sure there are problems, but the country the right describes? I don't even know where it is.

These amounts are as of July 13,2008, 4 months before the election.

Why $994,795.00 instead of a cool million? Trying to fly under the radar?

It's a shame that so many people are more than happy to expend the energy to type something that shows their ignorance, yet are completely against expending energy to READ the original post and save themselves the embarassment.:cuckoo:

They are so anxious to say that Obama took Big Oil money that they are willing to start lying threads....BIG lying threads about it.

rdean is of course being dishonest here...if you actually read the link, you will see he leaves out a very important fact...

This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

thus, the money also came from the corporation, not just individual members of the corporation

Wow... Iguess he doesn't ave a problem with Jews as long as they're giving him gelt.

Stop the pitiful spin. Your Hopey Changey did receive the most cash of any politician from both BP and Goldman Sachs. Has he even criticized BP yet? Man,the Hopey Changeys really are losing it at this point. Looks like they're now retreating into their comfy fantasy worlds as reality begins to smack them up side their heads. Saw this with a lot of wacky Bush-Bots too. It's actually kind of sad.

Or, to some a prime example of ignorance and embarrassment might be some dimwit who can't even spell embarrassment, but I digress.

Anyway, after reading and comprehending the thread's title - Goldman Sachs gave Obama $994,795; why not an even million? - I opined an answer in the form of a sarcastic question. To which you replied in sort of a, well, stupid way IMO. LOL...But happy it got under your skin enough to earn the negative rep.
