As far as throwing my effort in one direction, I have strong and fundamental disagreements with both ends of the political spectrum. Picking a side and running with it would require me to do what partisans do - spin, deny, divert, distort, lie - and I will not do it. There's far more than enough intellectual dishonesty being spewed as it is. Being honest at all times has served me well so far, no reason to change. I'm a lousy liar, holy crap, ask my wife.

Regarding the thought that "neither of the two biggies has any positives...", that's not what I'm saying. In fact, I'd say the opposite is true. Both sides have several good ideas, they both have passion for America, they both sincerely want what's best. The problem is that both sides are now so paralyzed by adherence to their ideology that they're afraid to give an inch. Everybody has to be a mini Rush Limbaugh or a mini Keith Olbermann with their hyperbole, insults, name-calling, and outright lies. And since these people vote, the politicians are following their lead.

So I guess my little agenda (as if it really matters) is to shine a light on what is happening in an attempt to move a few people away from the intellectual dishonesty and towards honest communication. Contemporary political discourse is currently far more about ego than it is about solutions. Humility is perceived as weakness that must be attacked. Nothing of lasting substance can be created until people can get over themselves and work together.

I guess my best answer to that would be "I don't know".

I'm sure there are. But the conversation is being controlled by the partisans, and that's the problem. They make the most noise, they are the most bombastic and aggressive, so the spotlight shines on them for better or worse (okay, worse). I guess it's human nature - when you're getting attention for hyperbole, the natural impulse is to turn it up another notch and avoid anything to the contrary.

Then the politicians do it, they're committed to it, they want to get re-elected (I'm a big advocate of term limits, by the way) and the cycle just hardens and deepens.

I'd guess that's part of the reason Obama's "Change" message resonated with so many voters in the middle - people are sick of this garbage and he convinced them that he was different. He's not, of course, he's just another politician, but the message was clear.

Seems to me the only thing that would begin to reverse this is if top people from both parties publicly shook hands and made nice. I just don't see it happening.

I'm with you on everything but the 'Rapture theory' pushed in the Left Behind books. I can find no Biblical reason to think it is true. My reasoning is really simple, Christ's return in Revelation is to defeat Satan AFTER the Tribulation. That is His Second Coming. In order to 'rapture' believers prior to the Tribulation, there would have to be a Third Coming, wouldn't there?

Not necessarily....the Rapture is when He calls us UP to Heaven. He doesn't come here. So when he returns at Armegeddon that will be His 2nd coming. That's how i understand it...

Verse 16 explicitly says " For the Lord himself will come down from heaven...
