N.C. Minister Arrested On Peeping Charges

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- A Pitt County pastor accused of secretly videotaping a woman at Surf City has been arrested after investigators viewed videotapes showing at least 10 women and girls at his church.

Leon Harris is charged with sexual exploitation and peeping. He turned himself in to the magistrate's office Wednesday morning. He's been released on $30,000 bond, and scheduled for trial on Oct. 7.

Harris is charged with six counts of secretly peeping and four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He's been ordered to stay away from Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church and not to contact anyone he's accused of videotaping.

Pitt County detectives started investigating Harris after Surf City police discovered several videotapes and DVDs in Harris' possession. Officers noticed Harris because a woman complained he was videotaping her on the beach with a camera attached to a metal detector.

For one I can agree with you on this. This man is disgusting.

Not so fast. If this perv peeped, took pictures, or videotaped women who had an expectation of privacy, then there's a problem. If a woman is in a dressing room or any other situation or location where she would expect privacy, then there's a complaint.

But what about this complaint?

Officers noticed Harris because a woman complained he was videotaping her on the beach with a camera attached to a metal detector.

If you take a picture of a woman, wearing a skimpy bikini on a public beach or if you videotape her - how can that be the basis for a complaint so long as you're not obnoxious about it? Can you now be arrested for taking pictures in a public place and someone in the picture comes up and complains?

If a person is in a private setting, then invasions of privacy can and should be enforced. If a person is in PUBLIC, that person has no reasonable expectation of privacy, therefore it is impossible in all but the most extreme circumstances to invade an essentially non-existant right to privacy.

I fail to understand how she doesn't find this amusing, but she DOES find a teacher nailed with child porn so amusing that it ended up in the Humor section.

I disagree. That's besides the point. He is supposed to be a moral leader. He shouldnt be video taping girls unaware anywhere. Especially when there are sexual connotations to said actions.

We don't disagree on this part. I believe you missed my point. The "complaint" that brought all this to light was apparently based on a woman who objected to being videotaped while on a PUBLIC beach.

Forget the fact that this perv is a preacher. What if you had taken a picture of a woman on a public beach? Do you think she should be allowed to sic the cops on your butt?? I don't.

No i agree that she shouldnt be able to sic the cops on someone for video taping someone on a public beach. But that's not really my point. My point is God wouldnt be amused with one who is supposed to be a moral teaching acting the perv regardless of it being legal.

I agree with your points within the parameters you listed on the basis of when you're on the beach, you're fair game.

I also agree with Avatar. The dude is apreacher and should be setting a better moral example. Christians take enough heat without crap like this.

I also think the ludicrousness of trying to hide a camera on a metal detector to take pics of women in bathing suits on the sly is hillarious.

This is a win-win-win deal for me. ;)

Well, then we apparently agree completely.

:huddle: Hugs & kisses sweetie.

Only those of us supremely secure in our masculinity can tolerate jokes on that level.

Excuse me, I feel an attack of testosterone coming on.
