There is an important element that you are missing from this and that Jesus told his followers that you will be judged by the standards you apply to others not the standards others apply to you. He is saying that you whatever moral code you live by and judge others by you will be judged by or be judged by your own moral standard that you choose no matter how high or low that is.

In other words, the freedom to pursue your own conscience.

The Republican Party was never liberal in any sense of the word. The Democratic Party was the old classical liberal party, but that ended with the end of Cleveland's administration and the rise of progressivism.

Jesus approved of taxes, healing the sick and feeding the poor which were socialistic practices.

Giving to charities is not the same as the government distributions because they distribute according to rules, regulations and guide lines. Money given to charitable organizations it is almost never given to the poor.
