When wicked men rule (with their own wicked servants / " " people's approval) and darkness covers the land like a thick blanket, know that God Almighty is still on the throne and the final move is His... These wicked men and women are like checkers on a checkerboard. When God decides their time is up, it will be as if He folded the board and tipped it - until the last piece slides into the box below.
Perhaps someone reading today realizes that they are in the wrong camp and it is going to end in their destruction. To that one, listen to the words of Matthew Henry:
When God's justice threatens ruin, his mercy at the same time shows a way of escape from it. God not only distinguished between Egyptians and Israelites, but between some Egyptians and others. If Pharaoh will not yield, and so prevent the judgment itself, yet those that will take warning, may take shelter.

If the Lord is dealing with your heart this morning, do not wait! Go to Jesus at once, weep and sincerely repent of all your sins and renounce every evil association which has led you down the wrong road! Ask the Lord's forgiveness and believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ who died upon a cross at Calvary and shed His Own Blood to redeem you. Believe on Him whom God raised from the dead on the 3rd day and is right now seated at the right hand of the Father. Jesus Christ. Search for the Lord with all your heart and ye shall find Him. To day is the day of salvation.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

9:13-21 Moses is here ordered to deliver a dreadful message to Pharaoh. Providence ordered it, that Moses should have a man of such a fierce and stubborn spirit as this Pharaoh to deal with; and every thing made it a most signal instance of the power of God has to humble and bring down the proudest of his enemies. When God's justice threatens ruin, his mercy at the same time shows a way of escape from it. God not only distinguished between Egyptians and Israelites, but between some Egyptians and others. If Pharaoh will not yield, and so prevent the judgment itself, yet those that will take warning, may take shelter. Some believed the things which were spoken, and they feared, and housed their servants and cattle, and it was their wisdom. Even among the servants of Pharaoh, some trembled at God's word; and shall not the sons of Israel dread it? But others believed not, and left their cattle in the field. Obstinate unbelief is deaf to the fairest warnings, and the wisest counsels, which leaves the blood of those that perish upon their own heads.
